i got rid of the 06 at 77,000km's because of all the head aches and went with an 09 HD2500 to ease some of it and have been nothing but dissapointed. its been in the shop 4 times in the last month. no kidding. now the abs light just came on. speed sensor is gone. they also said that all of the caliper pins are wore out and need replacing. $1400 estimate!! its got just over a hundred k so its not under warranty. its been one thing after the other with this thing. replaced the o2 sensors, evap purge valve, evap canister, both manifold exhaust gaskets, all with in the last 4 months. before the chev's i ran a 03 tundra. i beat on it pretty good...WAY worse than the 2 chevs combined. off roading all the time, getting winched out fo gawds sakes. sold it to get a new bigger truck. replaced brakes and had a recall on the headers....THATS IT. owned it for 3 years and put on 130,000km's. i wish they would come out with a 3/4 ton already. so sick of gm's junk. anyone know how the new dodge 2500 gassers are holding up? might go trade this pile in. liked my 07 company mega cab alot.

Not enough Soy Sauce in Nebraska to make me consider it for a second.

I feel your pain about being in the shop, but every brand of truck has its flaws. Sure you didn't have problems out of your tundra, but does that mean that no one else with the same vehicle as you didn't? Not likely. I see that you have put a bunch of miles on your truck in just the past year, and now just in the past few months you are having problems. That's what happens when a lot of miles get put onto trucks, or any vehicle for that matter. Don't out GM, and don't think for a second other trucks don't have problems. When my colorado became a lemon, I traded it in and bought a GMC sierra without any hesitation or doubt about my new truck's durability. My buddy is having problems with his 1500 also, and I told him to trade it in and buy another GM product. You just can't beat GMC or Chevy IMO. BTW, I haven't had one problem with my truck and it's 2 years old.

I haven't had one problem with mine and it's 10 years old with 140,000 mile on it. Except battery, tires, water pump, fuel pump, brake pads, had to replace all the fluids including oil and for some reason I have to wash it every month or it gets dirty. Nothing major at all, just normal maintenance items.

Definitely no time soon. But I also understand that shit breaks and sometimes you gotta fix it. As far as i'm concerned if something breaks and GM fixes it free of charge well cool by me. If something breaks because I abused it then in no way can I blame a company. Thats my own damn fault. Just because you buy a new truck doesnt mean its not going to have problems it just means its less likely to have problems. Gm makes solid, attractive vehicles that gets the job done. After seeing other manufacturers I think the design of their products are quite simplified. Not like Ford where they change motors and chassis every other year or so.

your complaining about replacing caliper pins at 100k??? its a 3/4 ton,...things are gonna wear,..regardless of brand. Thats something you can do yourself ya know,...not too hard.....save dealership labor.

..and o2 sensors are eventually going to wear out....especially behind a large displacment motor like 6.0. We call them "stealerships" for a reason. If one sensor is bad,..off coarse they are going to tell you both are bad. They dont want to take time to trace which one is good. Especially,...if its not under warrentee and your paying for it!!!

and,...did they change some of those items you mentioned "searching" for one particully problem? I,..mean,..I dont think there is a trouble code saying you need to replace the evap canister???,....sometimes its a trial and error thing ,..even by the dealership.

Try a different dealership or a trustworth garage next time with ASE certified mechanics.

I say don't let the door hit you on the way out. I've owned them all, and there's bad apples in each brand. Personally, EVERY GM truck I've owned has been virtually trouble free. I'm more mad at GM for letting the intermediate steering shaft issue and the slip yoke issue go on for so many years without actually fixing it. Seems to me your dealerships on the Get rich quick program.

You come on a GM website and slam GM.. What do you think people are going to say.

Hi Tundrat3:

First - I'd respectfully suggest that you be consistent in terms. You at first were talking about 77,000km's.... then later you wrote a hundred k, then later you returned to 130,000km's.

I think that threw a few people - If I understood what you were trying to say - you have to replace all the caliper pin's at 100,000 km aka 60,000 miles. {yes/no?}

Secondly to an extent I agree that any/all 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup's will have their share of problems. Just from the people that I know - I'd say that Toyota has a very good reputation for quality - and an all but lack of customer hassles.

As this relates to GM/Chevy - - They have been building more or less "modern" light duty trucks for the past 20 years. Other than Ford they have had a lock on the market. I should hope that after surviving bankruptcy - - some at the vary top of the corporate management would wake up and realize that in todays world - it is simply unacceptable to have any customer return his truck to his dealer for problems time, after time, after time. Non should it ever be acceptable to have 3% of 5% of the units produced be "problem" units.

Cutting the cost of production by reducing the quality of the materials used is a sure path back to bankruptcy. Let's all hope that from 2011 forward, someone at GM/Chevy really gains a grasp of the concepts that put Toyota at the lead of the automotive world - and I agree that GM/Chevy better pray that Toyota doesn't start producing 3/4 trucks.

Personally - I have no real issues with GM/Chevy. We bought a Yukon XL 1500 in 2000, put 100K mile on it. GM replaced the transmission at about 14K miles. Even though technically it was out of warranty at the time - they did so at no charge. I recently traded the Yukon in at our local Chevy Dealer on a used 2005 2500HD Crew Cab. It had 34K miles on it and the 4L80-e had a whine in first gear that sounded like LOUD ringgggg. So loud that people would stop and look to see if something was going to blowup. Working with my Chevy Dealer's Service Manager and Chevy Customer Assistance - Chevy replaced the transmission at no charge to me. That's on a used truck that the original warranty had expired on!! I'd say that was pretty impressive!!

Granted - on the one hand my 1988 Chevy C-20 went 350K miles with its original transmission. Granted that in fact I never had to replace a transmission in a chevy truck... Nonetheless GM/Chevy in my opinion did the right thing - they stood behind their product.

In all too many cases - it is not GM/Chevy but the local Dealer that either takes care of you or not. There too GM needs to rethink how they handle the interface with their Dealers - now that there are far fewer to deal with.

Lastly I will say that since Toyota builds their trucks in the USA - I will certainly consider them in the future if GM fails yet again to address serious issues of "quality".

just my thoughts.

Well I'd say that number one your mind is already made up. So why are you asking a bunch of gm guys? Second, I can guarantee you that there are lemons in every brand so don't be surprised if you find another ford that pisses you off, or a dodge, or your beloved Tundra! Later dude!

Carl, I'm just curious, how was it that they said your transmission replacements at 14K and 34K were technically out of warranty? Shouldn't they have been covered, at the very least, up to 36K?
