Krown Rustproofing

Hello All, I'm a new member here. Just got a new 2010 Silverado LT. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time and would like to get it rustproofed (I live in Ontario, Canada, so some sort of rustproofing is a must). I have been reading and searching trying to figure out what the best bet would be. From what I've read, some sort of oilspray (ie. Krown) is probably the way to go. I did not opt for the dealer rustproofing or electronic module as I heard this is not a good deal.

 

For the members who have used Krown on their trucks (Silverados or GMCs), where did Krown have to drill holes? Can they do it without drilling holes? Do they just drill holes in the door panels? I just have this hang up about someone drilling holes in my brand new truck! :lol: How does the Krown product affect the rubber on the truck (ie bushings, various rubber gaskets etc.)? Also, what where your thoughts on dealing with Krown.

i just had both vehicles krowned....they drill and cap the holes....my truck is black and they used black plugs....my wifes terrain is white and they used white plugs.....the caps are hardly noticable.....they will not drill if you request, but it may effect your krown warranty in that specific area (so i was told by them)

 

They SOAKED my truck which is what I wanted. They were very generous with the application amount.....took taillights out and all......After 9 days the truck stopped dripping.....the excess oil if easy to wipe up

 

i highly recommend it.....i have no idea about the bushings

You can effectively rust proof your truck with several cans of CRC corrosion inhibitor. Spray along the inner door creases on the bottom of doors, around the inner edge of the hood, remove the door panels if you do not want to drill holes and then coat the insides of the doors to the height of about 8 inches from the bottom. Let the excess rustproofing compound drip through the drain holes on the bottom of doors. That what Mercedes used to do to their cars in the 80's. (Some of the best cars they ever built).

Well, I have never seen Krown in applied. But I have seen people coat there undercarriage with just plain old motor oil from an air powered sprayer.

 

Personally, I don't live in a snow/freeze/salt area. But this is what I have always sprayed my vehicles with upon purchase. 3M Rust Fighter or like product. Then completely undercoat the undercarriage with rubberized undercoating.

 

But everything gets the door panels removed and an anti-rust compound sprayed in around my place. The inner fenders, rocker panel internals and frame. This compound also reduces noise (sound deaden).

I've used Krown for a while.....it's a great product!

Which reminds me, I have to bring my truck in soon. ;)

I'm in Ottawa. There are 2 Krown locations close by to where I live. Don't know which one is better.

 

From what I understand, Krown is petroleum based, therefore it will have an affect rubber components. I also recall a post somewhere wondering what Krown's affect on the factory coating on the chassiss would be. I don't recall seeing any info on that or an answer.

Just had my car down yesterday. Great product! Been using it on my car for about the past 6 years and it works well. They don't skimp on the spray either. :angel:

I had mine done by RUST COP last year. They get inside all the panel swith long spraying rods. In hood, doors, tailgate, underside, engine compartment,took out tailights and sprayed. I got to watch so I seen every possible area get sprayed. They really soaked it down and it took a month to stop dripping. They said you are supposed to do it three years in a row and then that s it. I think I ll let this year pass. Guy charged my 100 cash, no reciept or warrenty. (Fine with me).

iirc Krown has a lifetime warranty on corrosion below the windshield if you follow their protection plan. Regardless as far as Im concerned it is the best rust treatment currently available. We've been soaking our cars in it for years and I cant say its ever had any negative effect on the rubber parts but I never thought about it before you mentioned it here. My 94 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham still looks mint though ;)

I switched over to Krown after my local detailing shop moved (and used Rust Check). I didn't mind them drilling holes as I was used to it with my '95 sierra. I noticed the amount of product they spray and saw the drippings it left behind after parking the truck for the day on the road. If you park in the garage lay down newspaper for a few days so it can absorb the drippings otherwise you'll be degrasing your concrete floor.

 

Another point if fact is for those (like myself) who are in colder climates it is better off to spray in the warmer weather as rust occurs when the temps are warmer. Therefore a Spring or early Summer spraying is recommended. If you're worried about the unsightliness of the spray wash the vehicle after a week and you'll be good as new. Rust is less prevalent in colder temps.

    • Hi, New here.  2026 Denali HD.  Just purchased 7/2/26. I am having the same issue.  I just traded in my 2024 AT4, and the truck connected to bluetooth and Android Auto Immediately!  Now, with the new HD, it connects when it wants to, which is usually not at all.  I have to use the usb-c cable to get it to connect.  Bluetooth won't even connect without the AA. Now after saying all that, I'll take a 20 min drive with the phone plugged in.  Stop at a store, restaurant, etc....  Get back in my truck and DO NOT plug the phone in.  The truck then decides at this point, lets connect BT & AA and work perfectly, ie how it should.   I have deleted (forget phone) the phone multiple times.  I guess I'll just get used to plugging it in every time. even though I don't think its good for the phone battery to have it on charge after it hits 100%. I have searched all over.  No one else seemed to be having this issue, until I read this thread today.   thanks for reading.
    • I have an issue with my ignition hanging and I have to tilt the steering wheel to get in the off position. I have used a great key lock spray and it doesn't help resolve the issue. Is this an ignition assembly issue or something else. If anyone has a past experience with this please advise.   Thanks  Heath
    • This is a terrible GM warranty experience, two months waiting for a covered engine swap with no loaner or timeline is not allowed under GM’s courtesy transport policy.Escalate straight past regular support to a GM executive case manager, document every closed service ticket and dealer repair paperwork. File a complaint with NHTSA to force faster action, and ask for daily rental reimbursement while your truck is down. If it’s been out of service over 30 days, your state lemon law may let you pursue a full vehicle buyback.
    • 198°F isn't unusually hot for an 8L90, so I don't think temperature alone caused the issue. Since everything returned to normal after the truck sat for several days, I'd be looking at an intermittent electronic or hydraulic control problem before assuming the transmission itself has failed. The first thing I'd do is scan the Transmission Control Module (TCM), not just the ECM. GM transmissions can store manufacturer-specific or history codes that won't trigger a check engine light. I'd check: TCM history and pending DTCs Commanded vs. actual gear Line pressure Shift solenoid status Torque converter clutch (TCC) slip Transmission fluid temperature If it happens again, try to capture the data before cycling the ignition, since some intermittent faults disappear after a restart. A professional scan tool that supports full GM transmission diagnostics makes this much easier. For example, the Foxwell NT809BT can access the TCM, read manufacturer-specific transmission codes, and display live transmission data that's not available on a basic OBD-II reader: https://www.foxwelldiag.com/products/foxwell-nt809bt Hopefully it's just an intermittent control issue, but I'd definitely pull the TCM data before replacing any parts.
