I Want My 08 4wd Back,i Miss My 4wd

I drove today in some pretty bad conditions. Similar to the "big" storm we had last year. I had an 08 z71 4WD LTZ that I totaled. Found out today just what a big mistake that was. I do believe the Auto mode makes a difference and if i had driven a 2WD in this stuff the extra 3K or so would have been a no brainer. Also a factor was the 20" rims and wide tires with shallow tread. Keep this one a couple of years and then go back to 4WD.

Man i wish i hadn't wrecked that truck!!!!!!!!!

Shouldn't have to drive a 2wd in bad weather to realize you need a 4x4.....It's a no brainer from the start. TRUCK=4x4. (where I'm from anyway).......Put some weight in the back, sandbags should help in snow/icy conditions. Still isn't close to a 2wd but should be bale to get you home.

A 2wd TRUCK???????? Thats like drinking non alcholic beer..or decaf coffee.......Whats the point......I agree TRUCK = 4WD

Well, at the time i bought it i needed transportation. We only have one vehicle my wife doesn't drive. And there wasn't a lot to choose from around here. There's good and bad points to both 2WD and 4WD. 99% of the time i don't need it but that 1% is nice to have and i made it just fine i just did a little slippin and slidin and just took it easy. If i lived where you do Justin i wouldn't have a2WD

nice set of dedicated 17" snow tires/rims will do ya fine. If i lived where you live, that's what i'd have.

Yea that's a tough call living in Texas. I wouldn't buy a 2wd in the great white north which is Iowa, but verywell might if I lived where you do.

yeah, a set of the NX7 WT Steelies, not the shiny PY9 SL/SLE-1 Steelies.

I'm guessing you are near Dallas b/c 4WD wouldn't help with the ice in Houston.

I drive a 2wd with the G80 here in Michigan and I've never had any issues. If i can't get where i need to go due to the snow then I just need to stay home.

Judging by your pic you live in a city suburb in mi. You probably don't need it there. In the country you do if you plan on driving to work everyday.

Truck=4x4 x3or4 or whatever.

By the way....Michigan doesn't have any hills. 2wd is for cars and minivans. I would have kept cloth seats, 17" rims, and 4x4 before I would buy a 2wd. I used to live in Southern California and I still had 4x4 trucks.

Michael, I'm in the opposite situation to you but I can relate also. I had 2wd on my lat truck and just got 4x4 on my 2011 z71. I'm in Texas also - Plano. THis is my first 4x4

MAN! I know this weather has been unusual for us to say the least, but the 4x4 was incredible on the snow and even the ice. I saw people at stop lights truggling to get going and yet I could just punch it (cautiosly when no other drivers were close)and between the 4x4 and traction control, it felt like I was accelerating on dry pavement. Even taking slight turns and punching it would cause a little fishtail, but a little counter steer and it came right back in line and kept going.

We may have diff trucks now, but Igot a feeling both our next trucks going to be 4x4.ssss

My previous truck was a 2wd 2003 Dodge Ram Hemi with the 20" wheel package. I bought a set of 17" rims and put on real snow tires on all 4 corners. The snows along with the Posi traction rear end made a major difference in the ability to safely go, turn and stop.

I fixed it with my next truck and bought a 2008 GMC 4x4 extended cab Z71. Even though it is 4x4 I still put on a set of 17" steelies with real snow tires in the winter. I rarely need 4 wheel drive unless I'm breaking new snow on drifted country lanes. Rick

Having 4x4 is always better, but saying a 2wd is not a truck is ignorant. If you got rid of the 20's and low profile street tires, I bet your snow/off-road traction would get a lot better. I'm not sure if it is standard yet, so did you get the G80? I have done some mild off-roading in my 2wd with a G80. I can tell you it makes a big difference having that locker if you don't have 4x4. Having 4x4 isn't always a requirement when you don't have snow. Will I have it on my next truck...yeah. However, it isn't a must have down here.
