Hitch Locking Pin

I'm looking for a locking pin that will fit a '11 Silverado HD. My current locking pin is a little too short. Can someone tell me what kind to get? Thanks

I know they make them,just wondering what kind people had. On the HD's there is a hitch insert that you put in before you slide in the extention piece with the ball. There are plenty of people that will steal your slide in hitch if you dont have a locking pin on it.

Any auto parts store should carry a pile of them, here in Canada there's a place called Princess Auto and they carry a half dozen styles of locking hitch pins.

I've seen those "learnable" locking pins on the rack at my local GM dealer parts dept. I like the idea, but I seem to remember they were pricey.

The hitch on the HD is wider, thus the 'regular' pins are too short.

Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen these before, so I did some looking around at this company's website and the locks are made by Strattec. I remember years ago finding out that Briggs and Stratton was a big lock cyl. supplier for the OEM's. This site says they're a primary OEM supplier. I'm thinking that B&S spun/sold off the lock stuff.

 

My first thought was that I have to believe that if they've been in the business of making lock cyls. for the OEMs, they probably know what they're doing for these locks, too. I was thinking I needed a hitch lock and maybe a padlock or 2 for the trailer tongue and 5W hitch. Then I found the following:

 

 

 

I guess if you subscribe to the logic that "locks keep 'mostly honest' folks from crossing over to dishonest, but locks do not get in the way of a pro", then the vid is no big deal. Never seen a padlock stand up to a big pair of bolt cutters, either. Yea, I can buy a couple/few decent padlocks at the hardware store for the $28 we're talking about for one of these ($23+5 S&H from Amazon), but especially for the convenience of not needing extra keys for the trailer stuff, I still might be interested!

when I bought my truck, the looked at the local GM and Chevy dealers, both did not carry a locking pin that was long enought. Went to the local RV dealer for something else and noticed that they carried locking pins that were long enough to fit. Can't remember how much I paid as it was 2 years ago, but it was inline with the others that were too short to fit.

Order the one from GM. I don't know the part number [Maybe some of the parts guys will post it]. I bought mine from the parts desk of my Chevrolet dealer. It fits the 2 5/8" hitch OK and has worked fine for me for the past 11-months. I think it costs a little over $30-. It comes with two keys.

I made my own locking pin, I just took the pin and drilled out the hole bigger where the clip goes through and put a reguler lock on it and put the key on my key ring and an extra in the glove box.
