I have an 05 Sierra EC w/4.8 and a Black Bear Tune, I use a scan gauge so i can watch all parameters. Rain and head wind can cost 10%. Any weight on the go pedal will cost mpg, just the lightest touch sends mpg spiraling.Over a 2 year period I averaged 24-25 on a 65 mile each way commute during the warm weather in Ga, going thru one small town on the way. Winter would drop it to 22-23 average. With the low wages I was earning at the time, I was driving 55-60. Driving like a little ole man on Sunday drive. Driving normally cost 10% as well. So in a hurry in the rain would put me at 20-21. This jewel now has over 150,000 on it and yes going from 32lbs of air to 40lbs of air measurably helps

In my '99 Sierra Classic with 5.7L I've calculated by hand for the entire 191K miles. Averaged anywhere from 12MPH pulling a 4 place snowmobile trailer to 18.5 MPH running 55-65 on the backroads of north MI.

Still on the first tank of my 2011 with 5.3L w/AFM and 3.42 gear. So far it's climbed to about 14.8 on the DIC. Gonna take a trip in the next week or two and see what I can do on the open road again.

2010 gmc 1500 ext. cab 4x4 5.3l V8 with 3.08 gear ratio. currently getting about 18.3 general use but I have been doing a good amount of highway driving lately and it is always better in the warmer months. Strictly highway I can get anywhere from 19 to 25 depending on elevations and driving speed. Around town I am generally in the 17 Mpg area. Winter time I usually drop down to about 15 around town. I only tow occasionally and its just to go get pipe and other septic system supplies and its always no more than 17 miles round trip. I wouldnt want to tow much with it anyways with the 3.08 gears. Its fine for what Im doing with the truck though.

I have seen as high as 23 on my truck for a period of about 10 miles on flat ground with no wind, as soon as hills were introduced it went down to about 20.5-21, all this was with the cruise set at 55 mph

2011 Silverado 1500 5.3/6 speed/3.42/ex. cab 4x4

4500 miles or so and I'm still averaging 16.5 overall according to the DIC. Drives are usually 40/60 in favor of highway, maybe 30/70. In town is constant driving, there are no lights and few stop signs. No traffic. In town I lock the trans into 4th to keep it from hunting all the time as in-town it's just to hilly for overdrive to be realistic. Highway is usually around 75 or so. Not the most efficient driving style but I got the truck in March knowing what gas prices were/are doing. I don't care. I have it's first longish (200 miles) highway trip in a couple weeks- going up to Vermont so I'll be in the mountains but I'm curious to see what it'll do. I know driving style changes everything- a couple summers ago when I had my Tacoma I followed my parents up on the same trip (slow) and got like 22-23 MPG. Going home I was on my own. I got 17. :)

since fixing my dragging brakes...40 dollars of gas(3.65 a gallon) can last me easily 7 days averaging 30 miles a day of driving..

I keep seeing people on here claiming they are getting 17-18 on the highway and 14-15 in town. I commute 35 miles each way to work everyday that is all highway and have never reset the fuel economy computer in the 18 months since I bought the truck new. With 80% of my driving on a 4 lane highway it still says I am only getting 14 MPG.

I get 9.2 pulling my boat running on E85 at 65MPH. 2011 Sierra 1500 CC 6.2 Max Towing 3.73 gears. 14.2 pulling the same boat on 89 octane.

No trailer gets 17 on 89 octane steady 52MPH, 14 with E85 same speed. 52MPH is the sweet spot for MPG on my truck. Runs about 12 in town, everyday driving.

I had to drive to Boston for work today (70ish miles, mostly highway) so I got curious and reset the MPG as I got on the highway this morning. Traffic was heavy but still moving between 60-70 and by the time I hit the usual rush hour backup the DIC indicated 27.7 average. Not bad for a hot day with the AC blasting and driving about normal condition wise.

Ok, here is my experience for the first 2000 miles or so on my 2011 Sierra. Took a 4 day trip from southern MI to Houghton, MI and around the state. Lightly loaded, 3 people, and sparkling clean!

date mileage tripmiles fuel per gal* Total MPG comments

7/5/2011 9 0 Full 0.00 Received truck full

7/13/2011 324 315 22.701 3.839 $87.15 13.88 First tank. Mostly around town. Air on

7/16/2011 715 391 23.75 3.899 $92.60 16.46 Mostly highway up 75. Air on

7/17/2011 973 258 15.316 3.619 $55.43 16.85 Through the UP. Air on

7/18/2011 1397 424 23.752 3.899 $92.61 17.85 Through the UP. Air on

7/21/2011 1810 413 23.668 3.749 $88.73 17.45 Mostly I-75 and commute. Air on

* All fuel was 87 Octane Unleaded

Overall mileage = 16.57 MPG, average cost = $0.23/mile

I'm going to do my best to keep up on this and capture the total overall cost of the truck. I know some folks won't want to know but since this is my first new vehicle EVER, I'm gonna see if I can justify ever doing it again!

And BTW this looks SOOO much better in the edit window! ! !

I have a 2009 Sierra 1500 SLE Crew Z71 2 wheel drive 5.3L Active Fuel Management and I travel at 60mph (58kmph)

city I get 18 MPG (13 L/100km)

Highway I get 25.8 MPG (9.1 L/100km)

Towing 7000 lbs I get 9.6 MPG (24.5 L/100km)

I'm quite pleased almost 500 mi (800km) from a 25 gal tank (98L)

:)

To add I am running a "ScanGuageII". because I don't have the full DIC. This thing plugs into the OBDII outlet, installed in 2 min. its truly programmable and gives near 100% accuracy to fuel used and remaining. plus the fuel economy settings are reset after you refuel and input the fuel used and cost in the system.

Guages included are MPG, Avg MPG, Volt, speed, engine load in %, temps, pressures, manifold press, etc.

It has a bonus of being a full OBDII code reader so you can find out what that pesky engine light means, and reset it too.

I see they have a new ""ScanGuageE" out, a little smaller and gives you your CO2 output as well (but that is a simple linear calcuation you can find online) All the other options on this unit remain the same, except you can only see 2 guage items versus 4 on the "II".

$150.00 well worth the money. BTW, the speed output is 100% accurate from the OBDII output, versus the 1% error i get from my in dash guage (GPS verified)

Highway I get 25.8 MPG (9.1 L/100km)

Really?

I get this kind of mileage (for real) out of my Mazda 626 V6 with a 5 speed manual ranmsission. It will deliver it at 90 MPH with A/C on. As for my truck, I would have to coast down Pike's Peak road to get that.

my 8.1L with 3.73s was dragged down to 8.9 for the longest time. after repairing a hung up brake and ditching the no-name junk tires, things improved. i've been holding a steady 12.1 since the last oil change...and we didn't get our fair share of flatlands in this area :dunno: . was at 12.4 for a short while. installing a new set of Autolite DP plugs and a set of Taylor 8.2 Thundervolt wires this weekend. hope to see 13 on vacation next week.
