Eco-boost Ford Vs. 6.2l

I drove a ford eco-boost today because my bro-in-law wanted to.......

Spotty transmission, couldn't find the right gear, decent torque, if you wait several seconds for it to boost..... Overall its like a prius with more torque, not as much as mine, but more than a prius :sigh: .

I was not impressed. No top end V8 rip, no american soul V8 sound. It was almost like it had 100hp less than my truck and a really gross blue oval on the grill. :)

Eco-boost V6 is NOT in the V8 club......JMO

Um, so you're comparing your modded 6.2 to a stock Ecoboost? How's that a fair comparison? They have a 6.2 as well, if you wanted a FAIRER comparison...wild.

I don't care either way, but just some food for thought... almost everyone who test drove a 6.2L truck with the 6L80E complained about it during the test drive. Usual complaints are "doesn't shift right", "always hunting for gears", "not as powerful as i expected". Then, once the owners of these vehicles put some miles on and the control modules adaptive learning optimizes the engines & trans functions, they wouldn't have it any other way.

Just saying, it's very possible that a quick "test drive" really isn't a solid basis for how it'll perform. It sure isn't the case for our 6.2L/6L80E truck... just ask Stevens11 :)

Damn, I really thought that a v-6 turbo would be better than a 6.2 v-8 :)

I've got a BMW with a 3.0L Twin turbo, and the bottom end torque is amazing compared to my 6.2L, at 60MPH, the 6.2L has a lot more grunt (TQ vs HP). BUT, put a tune in the 3.0L, then it'll kill my 6.2L and a lot of other cars on the road.

Keep in mind the Eco-Boost would be an easy tune (a little more boost pressure and it'll eat most vehicles on the road). Beauty of a turbo engine. Why do you think the boys like the diesels? It isn't for the clatter and the stink. :sigh:

Yep... I really disliked the 6-speed at first but with a few miles, it's quite impressive. I can't speak for the ego-boots but GM's 6-speed is impressive once it settles in.

I see in your Video that you had turned the "Fun Button" On!

If the Ford Ecoboost is REALLY such a great, powerful engine, why is Ford still making the 5.0L and 6.2L V8's? It doesn't make sense to keep thim in production IF this turbo V6 is all around better than their 5.0L V8. Not a big fan of turbos but IMO it's going to cost a ton of money for repair when it breaks (and it will).

Simple... risk.

Even if the Ecoboost really is the #1, absolute best performing in all conditions engine, 100% reliable and yadda yadda yadda, there's still a very high risk that the market will not accept it (as clearly seen on a lot of these forums. Everyone wants a V8 N/A engine in their trucks). If they discontinued their 5.0 and 6.2L lineups and the EB fails, they're up a creek without a paddle.

If the EB proves to be a hot seller for a few consecutive years and picks up steam with good reviews on both quality and performance, then I would absolutely expect to see either the 5.0 or 6.2L dropped. However, if the market doesn't accept this engine, then it will probably be put on the back burner until a later time.

Yeah, and why is gm making 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 if the 6.2 is so powerful?
