Intermitent Cel Light

03 GMC Yukon.

 

The check engine light stays on for a couple of days then off the next. First off I dont have any diagnostic tool nor have any parts store here in Hawaii that checks this for free like at autozones on the mainland, so im coming in the forums for help.

What causes this to intermittently go on and off. Is there something really wrong or is it just a glitch? I was thinking it is a bad o2 sensor. Is there a way to check without using the diagnostic tool? Thanks in advance.

You need to get the code(s) from the system. You can purchase code readers fairly inexpensively. Ask around, perhaps a friends owns one.

My 2000 Silverado did that for over a year. On the day I was going to the dealer to trade it, it came back on. Stopped at Autozone and had it scanned. They said it was an oxygen sensor.
