People also steal checks and whitewash them from personal mailboxes. I always take items by the post office and drop them off, unless there is a cluster box nearby. Dog won't help this issue.

Thanks guys

My issue was with someone stealing 2 packages from my mailbox (items I sold and was mailing)

Just run them by the post office or find one of the big blue USPS boxes you can drop it in?

in this case, if you just need one camera. a game camera camoflauged in some bushes or bolted to your house/garage, then painted to match what you bolt it on would be your best bet. at least it would be the cheapest route to surveil your front yard and mailbox

you can get one for $100 at your local sporting goods store

You can also get one that when it takes a picture it sends it straight to your computer/phone. That way if someone hears the camera taking a picture they can't find it and smash it and take the chip out of it. I would look into that. Plus if you don't have any further need for it, there is always someone you can sell it too.

Too bad they didn't get hit by a truck crossing the street...

Yea we don't have a post office close, the local oneclosed down last yr. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet why it pisses me off. I lost $100 on the theft which pissed me off so much. I am going to look at cabelas for a camera. Also thought about a dummy one for the mailbox

Is this happening at night? Do you have good enough lighting for a non-flash photo/video?

Try looking at www.mackspw.com as well. They may have some.

Game cameras take infrared photos.

My buddy at work has a 4 camera system from Q-see, and the picture quality at night and day are great. It sends e-mails, to your phone and you can view it from any smart phone or computer. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain, my house was broken into twice in 10 days. I bought a outdoor 4 camera system from a 123securtiy for a decent price. Put it in myself over a weekend and love it. I'm really suprised how much activity goes on around here that I would not know about. Be carefull with the ones on Ebay the marketing is very deceptive as far as frame rate vs record rate, good hard drives and cheap ones, internet and smart phone on and on.Research reveiws. I missed the part about wireless, wired is much better do to transmit distance from camera to harddrive.

I use icam by skjm. You can download it for like $4.99 from the AppStore and android market. It controls USB webcams, ip cams wired/wireless. All you need is a webcam and a computer. No DVR required. It uses push notifications to notify you of any motion detection(almost instantly). It's a great program and I've been using it for a couple years to check on my house and dogs. I have a cam outside to check on my truck at night and one inside. Ive connected 4+ at ounce with no problems. The only downside to the program is that it captures still images not video. About 2+ frames per sec. The quality is superb though and you can also pick up audio which is great.

Currently Im using 2 USB Microsoft cinema lifecam's for about $50 a piece.

My next purchase will be some outdoor wireless ip cams from foscam.

I have already caught a young teen trying to break into our cars and successfully stopped them!

Interesting. How did you setup the web cam/pc? Where does it save the photos? Do you select the location on the harddrive?

First you need a desktop/laptop connected to the internet, wired or wireless. Icam is auto-comfig. So once you install the software/drivers for the webcam, you install icam-source (from there website) to your computer. From there you can access your connected webcams through the program and set sensitivity and other settings. You select where you want to store your images. You may also selet the size of the folder and it will delete when necessary. I use dropbox to back them up offline incase my computer is stolen. The entire process is very simple.

If you are looking for ease of installation and networkable, consider one that has POE. POE=power over ethernet=you only have to run one cable. Generally these are going to be better quality AND more expensive. Plus since they have the networking built in, you will have a system that supports that software mentioned above (ip cams as mentioned above).

    • Hey everyone,   For anyone looking at roof-mounted lighting for the Hummer EV, we wanted to share our M&R Automotive 50" PRO Roof Light Bar for the 2022+ GMC Hummer EV.   The curved 50" bar sits close to the windshield rather than sticking way up above the roofline. The mounting position is designed to keep the setup relatively streamlined while minimizing wind noise and maintaining full use of the factory windshield wipers.   A few details:   50" curved PRO light bar Fits 2022–2026 GMC Hummer EV Spot + driving beam pattern TIR optics White main beam Amber DRL backglow Approximately 15,410 measured lumens through the lens Mounts to factory accessory locations No cutting or drilling required Wiring runs down the A-pillar toward the AUX connections Designed to minimize wind noise Lifetime warranty Off-road use only     The 50" is an interesting middle ground for anyone who wants the visibility and mounting position of a roof bar without stepping all the way up to the larger 60" setup. For the Hummer EV owners here, would you go with the 50" for the lower-profile look or step up to the full 60"?
    • My son got a hatchback withe the aero package for like 17k new. Great little car with amazing MPH
    • Yeah, I've given up years ago with that! I was able to load a few when I first joined the site sometime around '07. Then after maybe 20 pics, it said I exceeded the limit. Now every pic I try to post says I've "exceeded 1mb".   ONE MB??? That's Windows 95 ******, lol!!
    • I get the same results with pictures. Then I figure it out. Then I forget. Screw it.
    • I guess I'm the only one on this forum who can't get effing pics to load here! Do you have to resize them to post, or am I just blocked from uploads?   I have the same luck with automotive electronics ... but this is the ONLY site on the net that I have this problem!   I'd post pics of what I'm working on ... but I CAN'T! 🤬       Just fabbed up the kickdown cable (had to extend the cable mount WAAAY out from the throttle shaft to get a full pull), and parts arrived for the fuel lines on the 940 carb conversion project. Should be able to drive this thing by the end of the day. If not for work, I'd have had this thing done SIX weeks ago.   Got the jetting sorted out last week. Had a real bad tip-in bog that I couldn't seem to correct. Friggin float height was over 11mm too HIGH! eBay purchase, so no wonder everything is screwed up right out of the box! I ended up with a larger dual-squirt accelerator pump jet anyway instead of the single. Also moved the 70 primary idle jet (4 sizes too big out of the box) to the secondary idle circuit, and installed a 57 in the primary. Runs great on the fuel bottle!    Still using the computer for ignition. Going to drive it first and see if I want to go through the project of installing an intermediate shaft with a distributor drive gear, so I can install a block-mounted distributor and run points, 100% computer free. I should do that anyway just from a simplicity / reliability / tunability standpoint. The electronics left me stranded last year a couple times! I can't tweak the timing to my liking right now because of the computer. Tried twisting the cam-driven distributor already ... and the damned thing just reverts back to where it was! That's infuriating. But if it runs well enough I might save that for next season.   Just driving it in and out of the shop to work on other projects, it feels 1,000% more responsive with the carburetor. Also fires MUCH faster when cranking. Can't wait to drive it and see if I got more than 114 ponies, lolol.   Hopefully these don't go 404 like the last post ... https://postimg.cc/gallery/MjhrmZS   Seems like that site went back to dial-up internet! Maybe they'll fix that some day ...
