The new US built Aveo?

The replacement for the Colorado/Canyon?

from what we have heard, 2 Midsize Sedans. (I'm thinking the Super Epsilon II Platform)

Good to hear that it will be bringing back some jobs in the area.

It isn't GM but VW has a plant in Tn don't they?

yes we do, they JUST mashed Go on THAT assembly Line, Feeding America's Passat addiction! we are also the HEART of Nissan USA.

and to jro909, you'll be eating those words in the Next Two Months, that is when the Leaves Change and the weather starts cooling off.

What are they going to assemble there?

The Sonic is being built in Lake Orion, Michigan. (damn Michigan job theives)

The new compact trucks will be built oversea's (china or korea?) because that is where they will sell best. I'm not even sure that GM has commited to selling a new designed compact truck in the US yet, have they? If so, I imagine it will end up coming out of Shereveport, LA where the past compact trucks came from.

how is Tennessee a Wasteland? have you even COME down here in the fall? (if it wasn't for Nashville, and by extension Tennessee; there would NOT be Country Music, NO Nissan Competition, No Nuclear research laboratory, and NO POWER for the Tennessee Valley.)

how is Tennessee a Wasteland? have you even COME down here in the fall? (if it wasn't for Nashville, and by extension Tennessee; there would NOT be Country Music, NO Nissan Competition, No Nuclear research laboratory, and NO POWER for the Tennessee Valley.)

Congratulations, man. I'm from a town that used to have a GM plant and now when I go home to visit and drive by the empty building, it is a sad sight. Although I'm hopeful GM will get it roaring again someday, I'm always happy to hear about towns around the country who keep their plant going (or get it going again). Go GM!

allow me to correct myself, aside from the military parts i've seen, tennesee is pretty poor...this is just what i've seen, as i can honestly say i'm sure some part of the state is very nice....sorry for the misunderstanding

I think it's fair to say that much of the US is "poor", and that there is a growing discrepancy between the "haves" and the "have nots". Even the poor are rich by global standards, but in the US itself... there's a wide range.

Eastern Tennessee relied heavily on coal production pre WWII, but that all went away... leaving remnants of towns. Some folks became "trapped", lacking the foresight or concern that their grandparents had shown when moving to the area in search of work (who themselves were often direct immigrants from Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, etc). I love Tennessee, but we are not immune to poverty, or worse, ignorance. I'm pretty sure that there is no place on the planet that is. I can say that TN is proactively trying to raise the education bar at a very fast pace. My kids are in public schools, and I'm seeing it firsthand.

TN and NC has a large influx of new residents from the northern states, due to our moderate weather (except July/Aug!), affordable housing, excellent outdoor activities (mountains to rivers to trout streams), and... yes... a wide range of employment opportunity. I have never met anyone that moved to TN from "up north" that wanted to go back.

Did I mention how nice the UT girls look in orange? I'm way past that age, but I can't help but notice in the Fall

It's hard for me to wrap my head around facilities like this. NH has like 20 companies with more than 1000 employees and most of them are white collar stuff like healthcare, financial and whatnot. There just isn't much large scale manufacturing up here these days for big stuff. The only thing the northeast seems to have a lock on is firearms manufacturing. I can't imagine what it must be like when one of these planes idles down since there are very few places you can get an unskilled labor job with the sort of pay they make.

here is what my Local NBC affiliate has:

Other factories scheduled to get new work under the deal include:

-- Wentzville, Mo.: Gets additional shift plus a midsize pickup truck. A $380 million investment and 1,850 new jobs.

-- Warren, Mich.: Transmission plant near Detroit gets new transmission. A $325 million investment and 360 new jobs.

-- Romulus, Mich.: Engine plant near Detroit gets $385 million investment and 285 jobs.

-- Saginaw, Mich: Casting plant gets $215 million investment and 255 jobs.

-- Fort Wayne, Ind.: Truck assembly plant gets next-generation pickups, with a $230 million investment and 150 jobs created or retained.

In addition, GM will build a new compact car at a factory that's yet to be determined. It will create more than 500 jobs with a $150

million investment.

GM's assembly plant in Shreveport, La., will close as scheduled, while a plant in Janesville, Wis., will remain idled.

so Fort Wayne is now CONFIRMED to Build the K2, and GM is going to build not one, but TWO Midsize Sedans at Spring Hill. they are gonna drop $61 million on one, and a WHOPPING $358 Million on the Other! and it also said that the work was slated to go to MEXICO! so HA, TAKE THAT MEXICO!

A 5 grand signing bonus? Are they serious? They give someone 5 grand just to agree to a raise and a job at that? Unions did not learn anything from the industry crash a few years ago.
