Any Issues With The 6.2l (2011) Trucks

Recommended Posts

I hear ya Justin. In 2009 I got the biggest motor they were willing to put in the extended cab....the 6.0L. Don't get me wrong, I love this truck and the power train but that 6.2L would have been the icing on the cake. So close yet so far.

I asked, but was told they only have one pump.

Do they put regular in the Vettes too? That is why the dealers I've used will either drive to a gas station and fill it up for you or, if you prefer, will follow you to the gas station so you can drive it and put premium in it.

I love my L92. 60k miles almost, not a drop of oil burned and I'm doing 10k+ miles between oil changes (Mobil 1 synthetic). Engine is bulletproof and I drive it pretty hard. Most miles I've put on a vehicle to date and I still love it.

Everyone here pretty much covered everything you need to know about the 6.2. It is truly an amazing engine..the mileage I get amazes me and the power is more than any everyday pickup driver could every need!

Finally got to do some light towing with mine today. I was just pulling my 2 place clamshell enclosed snowmobile trailer and one sled so really only 1500 lbs but the wind resistance from pulling that big box through the wind is what gets ya. Averaged 75-80 mph the whole way, 5th gear (hilly/windy), didn't hardly know it was back there and pulled down 12 mpg. I'm good.

Oh and a picture of the new toy, as well, for those who care.....

Did the first long distance towing with the truck last weekend. Truck did great, pulled the load fine and rarely downshifted. Trailer was a 18 foot dovetail weighing around 3000 lbs i suppose and the load was two aqua dams weighing a total of another 3000 lbs or so(just guessing). All interstate or highway, got about 11.5 driving around 70, mind you it was windy and the trailer was not aero dynamic at all.

You guys are evil with all of your 6.2L talk... You make me want to go trade in my 5.3L for one.

Nice to see a few sledders on here too.

It's just a GMC / Buick dealer. No Corvettes. If I were purchasing a Corvette, I would have insisted on 93. :D

Ok boys and girls, looking at a 2011 1500 with the 6.2L engine and have a few questions.

1. Are there any known oil burning issues?

2. Is this an aluminum or Iron block?

3. Do I need to 92 octane fuel

4. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks,

I just left the dealership, trading my 2007 Silverado ltz 5.3 4sp black bear tuned jba shorty headers corsa exhaust for a 2011 Silverado ltz 6.2 6spd. The 2007 runs strong with everything i have done to it and gets descent gas mileage, i do run premium fuel in it. I drove a 6.2 ltr and it runs even stronger. Will the 2011 6.2 6sp get the same mileage as a 5.3 4sp? Both are crew cabs, my 2007 has a leveling kit and 285/55/20 tires. The 2011 will be here in 2 weeks, cant wait!

I owned a 2008 Corvette with the 6.2. Never once put 93 octane in it, she ran great on 87, would almost whiplash on acceleration, and got 33-36 MPG doing 70 on the highway. The 6.2 is one amazing engine, you guys are lucky!

I have the 6.2L with 3.73 gears and I average 13-14 tooling around mixed driving and 17highway. The 3.42's yield about 1 mpg better :D

And Congrats on the new truck.

my 2011 GMC CC 4x4 6.2 acctually gets the same, and most of the time BETTER gas mileage then my 04 with the 5.3 did. this truck will not break the bank AT ALL. very happy with the mpg i'm getting for the performance of this setup! i'll never own another 5.3, i can tell you that.

Me too. First got on a snowmobile when I was about 8 years old. A 295cc one lunger MotoSki.

And I will be seriously considering the 6.2L next time around.

Thanks, my dealership still looking for a new truck, the unit they had found for me is at another dealership and they (the out of province dealership) have a potential buyer and will not release it so i am still without a new truck. The only colors options seem to be white or black, I want it with 20" rims as I have brand new tires on my 2007 and plan to swap them onto the new truck, they can keep the stock tires. As far as fuel mileage goes I lost 1-2 mpgs when I installed my leveling kit no big deal as the trucks are too low from factory, thats how they get better mpgs, less drag. I tested my truck today (the 2007) on the hwy and with all the mods JBA shorty headers, bb tune, K&N intake and Corsa sport exhaust and hit 121 mph, stupid fast for a truck. There was no traffic on the hwy when I tried this probably took about 20 seconds to get there pulled hard and sounded great. I am asking myself why a new truck when mine only has 105,000 kms on it and runs strong (it does use oil and ticks bad at cold start up) the only answer I can come up with is "why not"? FYI I am in Manitoba Canada.

Oops forgot to mention, my truck gets about 650 - 700 kms to a tank hwy- pending on the wind and around 500-550 in the city. In the winter that drops by a 100 kms both ways.
