Any Issues With The 6.2l (2011) Trucks

Recommended Posts

Ok boys and girls, looking at a 2011 1500 with the 6.2L engine and have a few questions.

1. Are there any known oil burning issues?

2. Is this an aluminum or Iron block?

3. Do I need to 92 octane fuel

4. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks,

No oil issues

Aluminum block and heads.

Premium is recommended for best performance but not required. Lots of owners here say its a notable difference. The cost between the two grades is minimal, maybe $5 per tank so it's a non issue.

1. No... Not a drop

2. Aluminum

3. I run 89 when just burning mileage without issue

4. Keep it under 70mph and you'll get decent mileage. I average 14 mixed and 17-18 highway and thats with 3.73 gears :nonod:

5. You'll have trouble keeping the smile off your face. :uhoh:

1. not that I've heard of. in 4,500 miles mine hasn't used a drop. keep in mind that this version(trucks) of the 6.2 doesn't have AFM.

2. aluminum

3. I've run 87, 89, 93, and E85. mileage sucked with 87 and was worse with E85. power was great with E85 though! I normally run 89 but will fill up with 93 when I'm going to tow or when I just feel like it.

4. I love the fact that outside appearance of this truck makes most people think it's just a regular ol' GM with the boring ol' 5.3. one's in the know, know to look for the larger tailpipe sticking straight out the back instead of out the side. I've caught myself looking whenever I pass a GMC or Chevrolet and I'll check out the tailpipe to see which engine it has. I like that it doesn't have any "6.2 vortec" badging to give the stealthiness away :uhoh: I've even had people ask me what kind of exhaust I was running as it didn't sound factory to them. when they didn't believe me that it was stock I encouraged them to take a peek underneath at the muffler. the expression on their face after doing so is priceless :nonod: this is one S-T-R-O-N-G engine. it's not like a Hemi or a Tundra V8, it's hard to describe without you acctually driving one. the tourqe off the line is amazing, I still haven't gotten used to it. The mid-range and top end hp is impressive. this motor pulls strong all the way through, if there's a weakness I haven't found one.

Our 2008 Yukon XL Denali had the 6.2 and while it did not require the premium fuel, it got better mileage with it, enough to easily offset the added cost.

No issues with mine, its a great engine and puts a smile on my face every time i hit the go peddle!

+1

I just bought mine one month ago and love every minute of it that I drive. Already put a magnaflow on it and getting ready to get a bb tune. It pulls hard and has excellent low end torque. GM did thier homework with this engine.

Had mine since April 2011. NHT package and still got 18.1MPG on a 200 mile trip. Not bad, better than my 1996 GMT-400

The only problem with the 6.2l is that it isn't in my truck, lol. Only heard great things about them, i say go for it.

1. Are there any known oil burning issues?

- No, but I do have a slight "seep". But not even enough to tell when I check the stick after 3-4000 miles. I will take it in before 36k, ive just been to lazy lately. :nonod:

2. Is this an aluminum or Iron block?

- I believe its aluminum

3. Do I need to 92 octane fuel

-I run 92 98% of the time. I have ran 87 a couple of times, and it sucked! 89 is just ok, but if you want the power and performance, go with 91 or above!

4. Anything else I need to know?

- Stock 5800+ pound 4x4 truck doing 0 - 60 in under 7 seconds right out of the factory. Not much more to say. :uhoh:

1. Not one ounce here, in over 6300 miles.

2. All aluminum

3. I run Shell premium or E-85 exclusively.

4. Save money for tires because you're going to be replacing them fast with this engine. Oh and hopefully you're o.k. with getting caught giggling like a little school boy by passengers in said truck while you're driving it. My GF says that my age drops 20 years everytime I drive my truck. She's right. Sorry, can't help it. :nonod:

Ok, thanks for the feedback everyone. Now I just have to see little the sealer will offer for my truck, I'm taking the rebates so well see.

One more thing, rear breaks?

Drum or Disk?

All 6.2l equipped trucks come with the 9-1/2" ring gear "hybrid" rear axle with disc brakes.
