Half cover? Anybody have one?

Where I park, there's a damn River Birch tree overhanging it (my neighbor's) that drips sap all over my parking spot. I'm thinking about buying a "half-cover" to protect my windshield, cab and hood. I'm thinking half-cover because it'll be a lot faster to put on every day when I get home.

Anybody have one of these? Have you been happy with it?

If the tree overhangs your property, you should be able to legally trim it back. I would certainly do it if it were my truck. Never have even seen a half cover. That's a first for me.

Not exactly sure where you are located but you may want to check your local codes. Most places have a code that states you can cut any and all branches that are hanging over onto your property. Before spending money on that cover, I would check.

I use to sell covers for Jeeps a while back. Personally, I'd stay away from them. They are a hassle to put on and take off, and will eventually scratch your paint job. Best solution, as posted by others is to talk to your neighbor, and trim the tree.

I wouldnt even talk to the neighbor. If its overhanging your property and in this case doing damage to your truck paint, trim it back!

I can cut the tree back. Anything overhanging my property is mine. But there are two problems with that solution. The main one is that the same from this thing is so fine and light, it blows all over the place. It got on my truck when I parked in the driveway 20 ft. away. Cutting it back would help, but it wouldn't fix the problem. Instead of coming out to a completely covered with sap truck, I'd come out to a half covered with sap truck. The second, and this isn't all that big of a deal with me, is that I'd end up cutting the tree halfway up the trunk and it would just look like hell.

I am however, going to make him an offer that if he'll let me just cut the whole damn thing down, I'll pay for it and plant him a new tree that isn't so ... dirty.

Is it the tree that is actually producing the problem or insects on the tree? Aphids put off waste that drifts quite distance. Not familiar with your tree type but keep insects in mind. They can usually be controlled quite easily

You probably have a good point txab, but as I say, it's his tree. I can't go treating the tree for Aphids, but I agree it could easily be that. It's light, fine and drifts all over the place. If it's caught fairly quickly, it's very easy to wash off, but that doesn't help when I get up in the morning to go to work and my truck is covered with a light coat of sticky goo.

Does it happen year around or only during the summer? If it is an insect problem, like aphids, Bayer chemical makes a product that takes care of them. It is applied at the trunk of the tree once a year. I have Pecan trees all around my house, Aphids love them. Two trees are right over the driveway. After I started using the Bayer, my sticky problem disappeared. So you might do a little investigating to see what the problem actually is

Well, it seems to only happen in the warmer months, but you have to remember, I live in Georgia. The "warmer months" are pretty much 8-9 months out of the year.

    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
