I respect those who purchase hybrids. God Bless them. By purchasing them in numbers the cost will come down and technology will get better.

But I can't see the value of spending so much more money for a potential MPG slight increase. And none of the batteries are standardized (someone correct me if I am wrong). And how much does a battery system replacement cost when these cars get older? Do these batteries when older just get slower or do they just quit one day?

But the bottom line is that I can't see spending the extra money for a few more potential MPG.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the EPA set the fuel economy number that is shown on the window sticker? Maybe she should try and sue them. Or maybe she could replace the worn out worn out battery pack and then she would be getting closer to advertised fuel economy. Where did common sense go? Kind of like suing GM for bad fuel economy after an oxygen sensor failure because you decided not to replace it. I could keep going......Sorry, just hate these kinds of lawsuits.

Usually the batteries will just stop holding the charge, no battery is permanent since it is just storing energy, elements break down with repeated charges and depletion, wish I could find the article about how making these batteries or getting the resources hurt the environment rather than help for a few mpgs more than usual.

Agreed the way we produce batteries now is far more harmful and depose them . Need alot more research into this field. ok girlfriend is saying she wants to go . time to leave the motel . lol

I used to think this too...until I heard the real story. Have you seen the pictures of the woman's legs after being burned? They looked like someone took an acetylene torch to her crotch. Turns out it was NOT just "hot coffee", some idiot turned the machine way up and the coffee was only a degree or 2 below boiling.

...and if she ordered HOT coffee she shouldv'e assumed it to be....HOT!!! I always BOIL (as in 212 degrees) the water for my coffee so I still don't feel bad for her.

Now back to the topic...
