floor lighing

This is the first GM vehicle I have owned without floor lighting. After having this truck for 2 years now, the dark floors and no lighting is on my nerves. I plan on doing blue LED strips to light up the foot well area inside the cab, and under front seats to light up the rear. I want to have them come on when the doors are open, and when I turn on the interior lights using the switch on the dash. Anybody have any tips or done an install like this before?

Ordered a 4 piece kit from www.ledunderbody.com. Hopefully it won't be a difficult thing to do.

Would like to add more interior lighting, especially the footwells if the right wire for power was easy to find and tap into. I would probably just use regular bulbs to keep things simple. I would think that you'd have to tie into a door switch circuit for the LED control box along with a seperate 12 volt power source for the LED's to work right.

I would think that since those are specifically for a 12v system, they should have all of the needed voltage adapters installed internally within the circuitry already.

+1

I have LED bars underneath the seat on the 1990. Luckily on that truck I could just wire them into the light on the 4wd shifter, which comes on with the running lights. There is hardly any draw from the LEDs, you shouldn't have any trouble as long as you hook them up so they turn on when you want em to.

I see GM is really cheaping out on these new trucks. No underhood lights or interior foot lights. Must be to save weight for gas mileage. ;-) You just need to find the domelight circuit in the fusebox. Tie in so they come on with the domelight.

Not necessary, your trucks AC power is 12v, and as Z71 AST stated so are the LED's. Run the power wires to the power source of your choice, ground each light unit and they'll work great.

Or glove box light or divider tray for console or actual cigar lighter socket..... I have a NOS underhood light to install but not sure what to do about the footwell lights. I like the truck but they certainly cheaped out on a lot of things.

Maybe you can order the footwell lights for an older model or get them from a junkyard and wire them into your domelight circuit. I can't believe how much these new trucks cost and they are eliminating all these goodies?!

Now that I think about it - being a old Hillbilly, I have a junk 70 Pontiac behind the barn for just such situations - so I know exactly where to get the footwell fixtures!

The lack of underhood lighting ticks me off, I plan to fix it with a good set of LEDs and an easily accessible switch under the hood. I might rig up something in the cab as well.

Its funny because the other night i was at a store and it was about 9pm, and i came out next to my truck and this guy had a nnbs and was checking his oil in the parkign lot (yes weird to be checking it that late) but the point is he kept taking dipstick out and holding it up to the street light to see. I smirked and said i never have that problem.
