AC Delco Professional Batteries?

Going to replace the battery in my '05 Sierra 1500, still has the original Delco battery.....still works OK, but I'd rather change it before it makes me change it somewhere other than my driveway. My local dealer has the group 78 in both a 6 year and 7 year version. The 6 year has a 30 month free replacement, 700CCA, and sells for about $105. 7 year is 800CCA, 50 month free replacement, $120. Anyone have any experience with these? I know Johnson Controls makes them (as well as Interstate, Duralast, etc). I'm not real hip on our Autozone here, and the parts guy at the GM dealer says that (of course) the professional series AC Delcos are a better battery.....the 50 month free thing is tempting.

Any thoughts?

both are great batteries, personally I would spend the extra $15,for the higher cold cranking amps and the extra warranty.

I have had good luck with ACDelco batts over the years. I put an auxilliary battery in my 08 and went with the 7 year (770 Cold cranking amps). 50 month warranty is a bonus as well.

I still have the orginal AC Delco battrey in my 2005 Sierra. Still going strong. I have no intention of replaceing it till it starts going bad. Who knows how long it will last.

I'm in similar shoes, snakedoctor. The battery tests OK, but the battery has a date code of October 2004....my truck is an early 2005 model, so the battery is actually pushing 8 years old. My experiences with batteries is that they usually go without a warning, like when I'm parked somewhere I'd rather not be when the battery takes a dump. Or my wife will be the one driving it.......ha!

I have been changing mine every 4 years on my '04. I bought one of the 84 month (7 yr) models recently. They aren't made by Johnson Controls by the way.

Ended up buying the 7 year AC Delco model, couldn't pass up the 50 month free replacement warranty or the price. My local dealer is also a good one, so that's nice also. Cranks over much stronger than the old one did. Funny though, it sure looks like a Johnson Controls battery - - the vent caps seem identical to my Interstate that resides in my Honda.
