My interview for a Ford salesman

I would rather have complete honesty from a salesperson then some guy trying to play smoke and mirrors with me...i can empathize that the sales person needs to make money off deals to keep his job and pay his bills, if he or she can be honest with me, and not try to bleed my wallet dry while yanking my chain im more then happy to try to help them out on making a profit off my purchase..its a core problem with capitalistic society, greed greed greed..if everybody in the world was somewhat honest and could empathize with the person on the other side, i think alot more people would walk away from dealers feeling happy...

i'm like most folks, hate going to a dealership and having to play their little game...i just want to walk onto the lot, find something that suites my needs and sit down and do some honest number crunching...i'll never forget my first buying experience at 18 at a dodge dealership, i test drove a dakota..which smelt like a lemon as soon as it failed to start after putting gas in it on a test drive..so i tryed to make a polite exit saying i was going to continue to look around at other lots in town..which resulted in 3 salespeople taking me in a backroom and turning the screws on me..that left a mark on me and made me understand why people hate the dealer buying experience

I've had salesmen try to lie to me both out pf stupidity and to make a sale. I'd be an honest salesman. But I guess being someones personal.assistant isn't bad for $14/hr, health, dental, gas card, and my Mercedes for work. I drive my Truck a lot still so I can use the gas card on it too

You gotta be willing to stoop to their level. I walked out of the showroom of the dealer I worked for at the time when I was buying my last Silverado. That's what it took to make them do the right thing.

Honesty is the best policy, I usually buy something (quad, dirt bike, truck or boat) from the nicest most honest people. One time I was lookin at dirt bikes, and the salesman was talkin to me like he was the next bubba Stewart LOL. But he must have weighed 350 pounds, I knew right then and there that their was no way in hell this dude ever rode a 2012 rmz 450. No way!! I hate salesman that just have a brochure memorized, when salesman see me walk in I look like a younger fella but don't realize that I have $$$$. I usually go to a dealer which sells my brand and has the most honest salesman, I can pick out a bullshitter pretty quick!! Anyways that's my point of view on different dealers...

And oh ya, that's happened to me before. Call an ask about a truck you seen in an auto-trader. They invited me down to the dealer and magically the truck was sold :-s pissed me right off, I was out the door within seconds when he told me that LOL.

Well, it started great. The HR lady was nice. She didn't like that I had no previous sales experience. Auto sales experience doesn't matter, they teach you and help you get your get your sales license. She started asking me questions about their various cars. I answered. Then she asked what I drove. I told her. She asked if I would own a Ford. I told her possibly and only the Eco-Boost F-150 if they didn't overcharge. She asked what my preference in trucks was and I told her I am a GM guy. That I wouldn't trade my 8 year old truck for a new Eco-Boost. She then asked what I thought about their advertising for the trucks. I said that Ford needs more truth in advertising. The truck can't get 20 MPG while equipped with the gearing to tow 11,000 lbs. And I would tell customers that.

Long story short. I didn't get the job because I love GM's and I don't think Ford is honest enough in advertising and I got up and told her "I won't compromise my integrity to sell any car or truck and this dealership doesn't sound like the place for me. Thanks for your time Ma'am, please shred my application."

Can't blame her, they want experienced people who know how to sell.

So she askes about ownign a Ford and you said YES EcoBoost F-150...Then you go on contradict yourself by saying you wouldn't trade your 8 year old truck in for an EcoBoost right after you told her you would own one.

Way to blow it, you wasted their time. If you were even half serious about getting a job you would not of been disrespectful.

Since you don't own an EcoBoost, how can you be sure it doesn't get 20mpg??? NO WAY you could know that without owning one and having personal experience with it over a period of time. You go on and claim you told her that you would tell a customer that the MPG is no good, What kind of crap is that?

From the Ford forums I have been following since EcoBoost was introduced, they are definately getting that MPG and more. You loose while towing, everyone in the world knows that. They don't advertise high MPG while towing 11,000lbs....It's quite obvious you don't know as much as you think you know and it was obvious to the woman while you were wasting her time with your interview.

Ford advertising is bad? GM has some of the most pathetic commercials I have ever seen in my life. All manufacturers have some bad advertising. You didn't get the job because you were arrogant, rude, and disrespectful PERIOD!.

It's obvious by the story you told that you didn't want it in the first place. You should go back to the dealership and personally apologize to the lady for wasting here time with something you never truly intended to do. There are people all over this country that would do anything just for a chance at a job interview and you went there and acted like that? Very childish IMO, you really do owe her an apology.

Doesn't the EPA do the MPG estimates anyway?

This is just my personal thought but if I were to act like that when someone gave me a shot at a job and was conducting an interview, I would be to embarrassed to tell anyone about it.

I couldn't agree more.

You will remember this interview when you are in the poor house and can't even bust a grand a week. Live and learn. Sometimes lost opportunities pay off in leassons learned.

I don't even make that much in a week. If you do get me a job there...

I have posted entry level jobs in this forum before that pay about 125k and up a year with little to no interest from members of this forum. If there are no high paying jobs in your area you need to ask yourself what your elected officials have done to run manufacturing out of town and why the community approves of it. Some areas of the country were not meant for higher paying manufacturing jobs. Remember the golden rule: If the community is not manufacturing friendly, another community down the road is and will gladly take those jobs.

Wish I would have seen those post's, I'd be all over it lol.

We should be Manufacturing Friendly we have 3 different manufacturing plants within less than a mile of each other, and the one I work at (Bonney Forge Corp.) is the highest paying one. The other two are Containment Solutions, and FCI. The only other higher paying jobs in the county are at the Prison. Now the jobs in Chambersburg, Shippensburg, and Carlisle areas pay more, but the housing and rent costs more there too.

True story. This was back when I was still driving Ford's. I had purchased an 04 CC Super Duty; I knew MORE about their trucks than any of their sale people; they offered me a job. I took the job, until they stated in training that they did not care if people could make their payments or not. I m NOT that kind of person. I quit.

They don't care that's the banks problem not theirs. That's the sad part. The more u guys tell about how they are make me happy I'm not working for a dealership. I work for a real estate agent. And my boss and I build a relationship with our clients

Well, that confirms something I always suspected about Ford Motor Credit; they'll finance anybody (my bum of a BIL needs to know this). Many years at work, I would watch these guys go through nasty divorces or other financial crises, and right after the dust settled, they would show up in a new Ford. Their line? "Ford Credit took a chance on me when no one else would".

Interesting reading in this thread. I've bought about 25 new cars and countless used over the years from dealers, including 3 Mercedes and by far the best place I have dealt with is the Chev dealer i just got my new truck from. I did business with the service dept. for years with my company van and they were great, always got me in and out as quick as possible as they new I needed my van for work. The sales staff has been there for years, new the cars well and if they didn't know an answer they went to find out for you. When I bought my '04 gmc the salesman told me it had an allison trans in it, i knew it didn't. That dealer is now gone. This chevy dealer went over everything on this truck to make sure I knew all about it. They programmed my phone for the bluetooth for me. So far they have called 3 times to make sure I am happy and I sure am.
