Looking into getting my first pistol in the not too distant future. I have a 30-30 rifle and a .22 rifle but time to get into the good stuff. Thinking about starting off the old fashioned way.. S&W 357 revolver medium frame. we'll see. Anyway today I washed the truck, installed the new LED taillights and top center stoplight.. got to thinking that they may be a bit too dark and I might get pulled over.. going to have to think this one out a bit more. Will post a photo soon. Also installed a new better built toolbox in the bed. Very pleased with the refresh job that LINE-X did for the bedliner. Super thick now. Noticed a few small specs of rust on the top of the roof. Going to have to see about this.

Here's a nice concealed-carry piece ... :D S&W 500.

Really can't go wrong with any of the major name brand guns today. They're all really good. Not much junk out there anymore. It just comes down to how it feels in your hand, and what style you want.

I loved the Warthog because it's basically a compact 1911. That was the first pistol I ever shot, so I'm partial to the 1911 workings. I like having the thumb safety with the grip safety - zero chance of me doing anything stupid.

I have had several Sigs over the years and I do quite like them but they mostly use what's called a double action/single action trigger where in lieu of a manual safety, they have a heavy, long initial trigger pull and subsequent pulls are much shorter and lighter. If you can get used to it, they are some of the finest mass-produced pistols made today (and their prices do reflect that). I don't handle the transition well so I stick to guns with a consistent trigger pull for carry be it striker fired (which means they do not have a traditional hammer) guns like the Glock, S&W XD series and Springfield M&P. I also have a H&K VP9 which is also striker fired and is my absolute favorite striker fired gun but it is full sized, and carrying it is a bit uncomfortable.

The other strike against Sigs is they're all metal whereas the striker fired guns use a polymer frame so the Sigs are substantially heavier.

I'll tell you the same thing I've told countless people who've asked about getting into carrying. Go out and try the Glock, XD or M&P in 9mm and see which fits best and which you like best. I don't recommend .40 as I can't see it having any substantial advantage over 9mm and it is harder to shoot. Don't be afraid to try .45 too. People make it seem like it's a cannon but it absolutely isn't.

Oh yeah forgot about that double/single deal. Not a big fan of that at all.

I shoot Glocks better than anything. Love them. I'm too absent minded to carry one daily, though. Don't want to be "that guy" ...

In MA it's only legal for law-enforcement to buy them new, so your only going to find a newer model one when a cop wants to sell one. This state is such a joke ...

Come on man I expect better from you! Don't buy into that BS of guns going off randomly or even easily. I've carried my G32 most days since 2009 without incident. If you don't pull the trigger, it won't fire. End of story.

And one last thing to Sarah or anyone else really:

Don't skimp when it comes to the holster. It makes a huge difference in how easy it is to carry.

Belt too. I like my wilderness belt and my belt from belt man. Downside is I've gotten too fat to use the belt man belt, almost too fat for the wilderness belt too.

I have a 5.11 tactical belt, double thick. It's pretty nice, use it when not carrying as well

I love mine. It is my first DA/SA. But unless you decock it, it always starts in single action for me on the range. I also have a short-reset trigger in mine. Spursot installed it at the last meet.

Aluminum frame and milled billet stainless slide. Has great balance.

Ok, stop giving gun advice.

I'm wondering where all the 7.62/308 rifles are. Can't find DPMS GII, SCAR 17s, Sig 716, and the Springfield M1 stock is thinning.

Whatever. Everyone knows Glock is all that matters.

I got to fire a few of the department glocks back when I worked for them (fleet & patrol services, not a peace officer) they were really nice. Most of the the officers chose to carry them for their service weapon and many as their backup. I'll eventually move up there, but going to start off old fashioned and work my way up.
