ChaseN Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I bought my truck with the appearance pkg just so i wouldn't have to spend more money in the future painting everything.. well, the the black paint is already chipping off the front bumper AND on the bottoms of the front doors. Took it to local chevy dealer (not the one where i bought it) and they said paint chips like that are not covered under warranty. IMO, that's crap spending this kind of money a month ago and paint is already chipping!! What's it going to look like a year from now?
Z45 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Well if you are going to drive it down the road, paint chips are inevitable. Stay back as far a possible from the vehicles in front of you and you will keep that to a minimum but if you follow closely, going to happen.
gnet158 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Ouch, that's exactly why I didn't get the apperance package. And wait until you take your truck off road thur bushes. As for the chips, I too didn't like them on my 08 so when I bought my 2012 one of the first things I got were mud flaps and a bug deflector.
ChaseN Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 that's understandable. I just don't understand it's one month old. Why offer this package is it's not going to last? GM could have figured out something different, perhaps powdercoating or something. bug guard was installed by dealer, so hood is safe. however, i just ordered painted to match mud flaps (splash guards) last night. I was hoping the factory 6" steps would be enough coverage, but guess not.
ChevyTech77 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I have paint chips all over my truck and am GLAD that I can just touch up those chips instead of having to replace the whole bumper when the chrome begins to rust, peel, etc. Paint chips are 100% avoidable. Don't drive your truck.
RyanbabZ71 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 check out this http://drcolorchip.com/ I just ordered some because my son put a scratch in the rear quarter on my truck (not bad but noticable for me) Mine isnt to bad but I do have some chips which are to be expected. Unless you let it sit in the garage 100% of the time chips/scratches are going to happen
ChaseN Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 These are my first Chevy's (with painted fronts). My dad owns an oil field company and he updated his fleet and bought 15 new trucks at the same time is the only reason i bought these trucks. I got a damn good deal on them! I have had Fords and Dodges and never had chipping (other than the hood). It's just crazy how much it's chipping on the bottom of the doors, too. oh well, I'll enjoy it for a year then trade her in haha. sorry for ranting guys!
RyanbabZ71 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 another option get it fixed then apply a 3m clear coating to the front
snarkee Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 my 11 f150 fx4 front bumper was painted and it had a few nice chips that started to rust over the winter......painted bumpers are painted bumpers, it dont matter what truck they are on
MikeNH Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 check out this http://drcolorchip.com/ I just ordered some because my son put a scratch in the rear quarter on my truck (not bad but noticable for me) I would have thought that would qualify for being disowned with how nice you keep your vehicles. Mine has a few chips up front too. It's impossible to avoid when I do so much driving these days. Plus these damn midwestern drivers don't understand the concept of keep right except to pass so I gotta tailgate them till they get outta my way! Hahaha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Still don't know how it happened but I am over it, it's only noticable close up Ryan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BlackZ71Silverado Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Painted bumpers chip, nothing you can do really. I touch mine up every summer. Not really a big deal. Sent from my iPhone4S using Tapatalk
Major_Kong Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 One of the first things that I did was to put door edge guards all along the bottom of the doors. I like the look of having the doors extend all the way to the bottom but apparently the Gm designers did not give any thought to rock chips.

I've been thinking about getting some of that for my wife's car.
