What model do you have? What do you use it for? And what mods?

I have a synthetic 870 Express with a 26" barrel. It shoots 2 3/4" and 3" shells. I haven't hunted with it. I just shoot trap. I want to get a longer barrel so I can go dove hunting in September.

I also just ordered and installed the Remington ShurShot stock. It was $59.07 from sportsman-depot.com. over night shipping was $20. So I paid the same I would have If I bought through Remington but didn't have to wait over a week. by the way I love this new stock. It is a lot more comfortable to shoot and with me having a bad back, after about 30 rounds I'd start to be a lil sore. With the new ShurShot stock I really didnt get sore until about 75 shells in. I shot 150 shells and 50 .45 rounds after i got that stock. I had to have it overnighted. I was ordering on a Wednesday night, and I was supposed to go shooting the following Sunday.

I have a 80's model Remington 870 Sportsman's Magnum which accepts 2 3/4 and 3in shells. Blued w/ walnut stocks and a 28in barrel. I don't really use it any more, just a keep sake as it was the first shotgun my dad bought me when I was 14.

In the past I have hunted deer, duck, rabbit, squirrel, and dove with it.

Mine was my first gun. I bought it in June 2010. Its seen a lot of shells in its 2 year life.

I got an 870 Express that i got when i was 13, im now 27 and its still my favorite gun. I use it for duck hunting and it has been many times thrown across the creeks when out hunting. Its been plugged with mud and its still shooting and looking good. You honestly can't kill it. When I was 16 my dad got me an Remington 1187 to replace the 870 and i used it for 2 seasons and went back to the 870. It just shoots nicer than anything else i ever shot.

I guess mine isn't technically an 870, but it's an 887 which is pretty close. 28" barrel, takes up to 3 1/2" shells. It builds on the durability of the 870 line with polymer coating and a revised bolt. Had to have it, bought it as soon as they came out a few years ago. Has been a great shooting gun.

I have a "Marine Magnum" with that bead blasted electroless nickel finish from the early 90's. It is the home or camp defense artillery. I have a 1969 20ga. ultra light, and a 870 Trap model.

870 Express was my first gun. It has served me well over the years, however as of late it is having extractor problems. I'm probably going to end up selling it and picking up a Wingmaster, because they are much better made than the Express models. I'm not a fan of the finish either, it rusts very easily.

Moral of the story is that if you want to buy an 870, look around and get a used Wingmaster, save your money and don't get an Express.

The wingmaster is just a better made gun.

I bought my 870 wingmaster used back in the late 80's. It shoots 2 3/4 and 3" shells, has a modified choke with the 28" barrel. That thing has shot thousands of shells over the years and have never put a penny into it. I think the walnut Remington used in the older wingmaster is some of the best looking wood stocks made.

If you take care of an 870 its the last shotgun you ever need to own.

You didn't get sore right away because of that recoil pad, makes a huge difference. People don't realize that until you use one of those.

Should be much more comfortable for you to shoot with the modified pistol grip and cheek plate on there, better/easier sight alignment also.......Good choice for a replacement.

Recoil isn't what hurt me it was holding the gun killing my lower back. The modified pistol grip changes how I hold it now
