I got a job at the amazon warehouse with a contracting company and i work three 12 hour days from 6pm-6 am Sun-Tues with a half day on wednesday. Any tips for working a 12 hour day back to back to back from 6pm-6am? I sleep and wake up on a normal schedule, so this is a pretty big shock

Been there done that! Very hard to get used to. Are you switching shifts or just 12 hour days?

Most of my work hours during my years of employment were off-shift. I LOVE off-shift! No bosses, good times. We were the inmates running the asylum! Octane-rated coffee, relax and enjoy yourself, and get it done at your own pace (you'll be surprised how much more productive you are when you do it that way). Off-shift groups are tighter and more closely knit; this is also your social life.

Where is your amazon facility? My bro works at on here in Indy he does 4 10 hr shifts and a ton of OT

Our group started a split shift between 7 guys so every 7th week I work 11-8 which isn't to bad

Been working shift work since '99. I hate working day shift during the week when management is here...working weekend days (like today) isn't too bad. I wish I worked just 3 12-hr shifts...I worked Monday night, off Tues, Wed, Thurs, work days Fri, Sat, Sun, then back on nights this coming Mon, Tues, Wed, & Thursday. The I'm off next weekend, then another 7 straight 12-hr shifts. For the month of June, I'll work 20 of the 30 days, then July I'll work 24 of the 31 days.

Forget all the caffine, Monsters and all that other BS... your body doesn't need it. I have worked 12 shifts and have swapped from days to nights from month to month and sometimes week to week inbetween. Your body will adjust. Might hurt at first, but it will adjust. Now it is a bit easier if you are younger, the older you get, then it gets harder. Congrats and good luck with you new job.

it may take a few weeks to adapt but once you do, 12 hour shifts are great.....on wednesday i go back to my regular 4 on 4 off 12 hr schedule and i am sure my body will hate it for the first while

I work 12 hour shifts, 14 days a month that is lol

I like our rotation :)

Same...well 14 days 14 off then 14 nights...I'm on day 4 of nights as we speak. I have been workin 12 hour shifts for 7 years, you get used to it. My biggest advice is eat properly, not too much caffeine. Healthy meals will give you good energy, and sleep better as well. I have 1 drive to the mine I work at as well, I get up at 4am/pm get to work for 6...get home at 7. Shower, eat, make lunch, watch a bit of hockey go to bed...that's half my life right there!!!!

From another military mn, you will adjust just give yourself the necessary time to adjust.

This August will be 29 years working shift work for me. Right now I work 12hrs 6a-6p Monday, Tuesday 6a-2p Wed,Thurs Fri and sometimes Saturday the next week will be 6p-6a Mon, Tues and 10p-6a wed, thurs, fri. The 3rd week will be 6p-6a mon, tues and get off at 6am weds morning then double back in at 2p-10p wed, thurs, fri and sometimes saturday.

I used to work 7 on 4 off 7 on 2 off and 7 on 1 off 6a-2p, 2p-10p, and 10p-6a. and yes your body will adjust to it, I love shift work.

When I work the midnight shift getting off at 6am I come home eat something small shower and go to bed till around 2-3 pm. Then when the midnight shift is over I will do the same but wake up around 12pm on the day off and stay up till its time to go to bed at around 11pm or 12am then make myself get up around 8-9 am the next day so I can adjust.

DO NOT USE THAT ENERGY STUFF, it will make it harder on your body adjusting to the shifts.
