New Tundra vs Sierra/Silverado

I love my american owned but mexican made GMC. However just found out my uncle bought a new Tundra. He had another one before also but it was the four door and long bed. It was huge. This time he went with the short bed and larger backseat. Was on the phone with my mother tonight and he just got another one very recently, she was telling me that the rear seat reclines and has some movement. I also have a friend with a tacoma and its built for the outdoorsman, with the rear seat fold down with hard plastic 12 volt in the bed and some other stuff.

Why does the Sierra not have this kind of stuff? Not too concerned with the Tacoma with the 12 volt outlet and the back and the seats that fold flat, but the Tundra why doesn't GM compare to that? Just like the Ram box, not saying GM needs to completely scam it but thats a great idea. They wonder why some people just love foreign vehicles possibly because of the innovation or differences american companies don't have.

Just kind of wondering if I'm off base or others have seen this as well.

Cliff notes:

Tundra/Tacoma have way more neat stuff and GM doesn't. Why?

Tacoma has a 110v outlet, not 12v. You won't see any major upgrades on this generation truck this late in the game. The new truck will likely address this.

The new gen that comes out next year, should.

I hope so. If it does I'll be kinda mad I didn't wait until next gen, but you could always say that about vehicles, they will always becoming out with something new and improved and better than the last one. Can't win them all. Plus as much as I love GM, I don't think I would want a first gen vehicle anyway.

110V makes some more sense. Still kinda cool it has something. Not that its hard to get a adapter for cigarette lighter.

I had a Tacoma and the only time I used it was during the ice storm we had in the northeast in December 2008. Used it to keep a light on and tv for a bit too. It only put out like 400 watts so it isn't very useful and it made for a real inefficient and expensive generator.

My buddy has a Tundra and the rear seat recline is nice. I'd like that feature, not that I sit in the back but still would be nice.

Tundra....been there done that. I had a 2007 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 and it had it's strong points, but it also had its weaknesses. The rear seat room (and recline) was nice. However the rear doors were the size of sails. Open one on a windy morning and you had to hang on for dear life. Both of my children struggled with the huge doors. 5.7 motor had tons of power. Ride was much rougher. No locker in the rear. Front rotors warped. Radio went bad. Armrest cover had to be replaced. The stability control was touchy and would go off unexpectedly. My least favorite part of ownership was snow performance. It was an adventure.

I know features are nice, but be careful the reason the grass may be greener on the other side may be a result of lots of "fertilizer."

JMO but those features belong in a minivan, not a truck. Trucks are for doing work, not luxury grocery getters. If you want that kind of fancy stuff don't get a truck, get a minivan or luxury suv.

What on earth are you talking about? What you said makes no sense.

How is in-bed storage (like the Ram Box) something for a luxury SUV?

How is a in-bed power outlet something for a luxury SUV?

How is having seatbacks with plastic backsides to create a durable load floor something for a luxury SUV?

How are reclining seats a luxury item?

Not to mention you have a LT-trim truck you added a Denali shifter to- LT trucks have power seats, windows, locks, mirrors, dual-zone AC and dozens of other luxuries.

The days of all trucks being spartan work tools is dead and with good reason.

Well I KNOW GM had the Ram box idea well before Dodge did...

Next gen will have all the latest updates.

Yes, without regard that the current gen Sierra and silver ado are dated, keep in mind that they are work horses and solid vehicles. Tundra is not a real work horse. Yes, it has a strong engine but frame, chassis, tranny are extremely weak. I've heard many horror stories where the tundras suffered vibrations in the chassis due to bent and twisted frames from hauling of 8k lbs! I've seen 1500s turned into plow trucks and tow 10k lbs without any issues. Yes, our trucks are built tough to take that type of abuse. So, do I still want more avail standard luxury items? Hell yeah. But at the end why am I buying a truck in the first place?

You can add a 110 outlet in your bed for the cost of an inverter and a handyman box.

A load floor in the backseat? Am I the only one that uses the BED for that? That's what you get a truck for in the first place.

cant think of a time that i have ever seen a foreign truck with a reading body on it. i dont think the outlets in the bed and things along the line of that are a bad idea, but they should be an option for people who dont want things like that. i will say, the floor storage is stupid to me. IMO

does anyone know what year the current style of tundra came out?

Normally yes but there are times when you carry stuff that needs to be dry/secure or kept at a normal temperature and no tonneau can truly do that.

What on earth are you talking about? What you said makes no sense.....I guess your simple mind can't understand then

How is in-bed storage (like the Ram Box) something for a luxury SUV?.....Never mentioned Ram, topic is about Tundra, pay attention

How is a in-bed power outlet something for a luxury SUV?.......if you can't see that as a luxury item and need someone to explain, I feel sorry for you

How is having seatbacks with plastic backsides to create a durable load floor something for a luxury SUV?........didn't say anything about this, maybe yo ushould re-read my post?

How are reclining seats a luxury item?....think about it, not hard to figure out, for most people anyway.

Not to mention you have a LT-trim truck you added a Denali shifter to- LT trucks have power seats, windows, locks, mirrors, dual-zone AC and dozens of other luxuries........NO I don't have dual zone AC, not needed. NO I don't have power seats, wasn't needed, gear shifter is not a luxury item, installed it to match.

Anything else you can't seem to understand??????????
