$44,470 to start...

Chevrolet officially announced the pricing on the SS performance sedan today. The Zeta-based, Australian-imported sedan will start at $44,470, including a $995 destination charge. The 2014 SSwill also be subject to the gas guzzler tax.

You’re probably wondering what makes the 2014 Chevy SS command a mid-$40k MSRP. For one, it’s imported from Australia. The other reason is that it’s rich in content, with a power-operated sunroof ($900) and full-size spare tire ($500) being the only options. The SS will be available in five exterior colors – Mystic Green, Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic and Heron White. All interiors will be Jet Black and feature sport front bucket seats, naturally.

Wow no thanks I'll take a G8 or GTO. Idc what options it has for one they are options that personally I find useless.

Pretty much fully loaded, so the price is about where I expected it to be, pretty much in line with the G8 GXP when it was on sale, and this is pretty much the chevy version of the GXP.

Is it just me, or does Holden have some of the coolest/ oddest cars and trucks offered? Their cruze models vary from a hatch back to a sport wagon with a new turboed 1.6l that I think the U.S. doesn't have. I also looked at the god awful Colorado. Ugly but offers the small diesel we want, or at least that some of us want. And what in the heck is that new age el Camino aka Ute, doing lol. Not sure what to think of it.

The Utes are very popular in Australia from what I understand. I don't quite get it either.

But yeah between that and the Aussie-spec Ford Mondeo (I think that's the one at least) they get some seriously nice cars there. I personally have no use for all the fluff BS though. Give me a car with a comfy cloth seat, the usual power accessories and a USB port for my iPod. Nothing more. That would likely push price to the low $30k range like a Charger. Or Chevy could just sell the Caprice to non-LE customers too. Either way it drives me nuts that Dodge is the only one who offers a V8 RWD/AWD sedan for reasonable money. Every now and then I get to thinking I'd like something like that to replace the Silverado in a couple years but I can't bring myself to consider Chrysler stuff, it just doesn't impress me.

From autonews.com

The price is below that of the two main competitors in the small market for nonluxury, rear-wheel-drive performance sedans: the Chrysler 300 SRT ($47,240) and the Dodge Charger SRT ($45,270 for the Super Bee trim level). Both prices include shipping.

GM wants to conquest customers of those models while burnishing Chevrolet's reputation for performance by adding the SS to a lineup that also includes the Corvette and Camaro.

GM has downplayed sales expectations for the SS. In January, GM North America President Mark Reuss told an Australian Web site, carsales.com, that he would be happy with U.S. sales of 3,000 to 5,000 units a year.

Research firms AutoPacific Inc. and LMC Automotive are more bullish, with U.S. sales forecasts of 8,000 to 10,000 units for next year.

I don't get that- the SRT cars have like 60 more HP. Though I guess performance numbers will be close since an SRT Challenger barely keeps up with Mustang GTs and SS Camaros.

Was looking at a stingray silver Vett trade-in today at the nearby Chevy dealer. Then a high country and then a ZL-1 Camaro. Not buying just looking at the Vett. Walked right pass a new bright red SS. My sales guy also a friend had to point it out to me. I said oh is that the SS??

Not good if a car guy like me walks past one and it goes unnoticed. I admit I am not into 4dr cars but dang I should have caught it?? Oh and the stupid gas guzzler tax was right there on the window sticker.

After seeing the SS again, while looking at a charcoal stingray, the SS looks to me like a slightly bigger Malibu. Saw a Malibu on the road a little later in the day and had to look twice to see if it might be an SS. Will not even test drive. B-pillar is right there for taller drivers.

A two door the size of the SS would sure be nice. What's is nice about a 2dr is that with the B-pillar being further to the rear of the driver, You can have the window down and not be blasted by turbulent air flow. And with the seat back one does not have the view obstructed by the B-pillar.

Not sure if any of that will happen or not, but thinking they were going to move production of the car state side in a year or two.

May get the magnetic suspension & manual trans for 2015 though.

With Mag ride I might test but would for sure buy if two door. Maybe they will move it to the small cad platform someday.

Ever heard of the Camaro?

What you are wanting, the Camaro fits your criteria; the ZL1 has Magnetic Ride suspension, and a manual transmission; it also has the added bonus of being a well known nameplate.

What I posted I the 2015 Mustang thread. Cannot see out of the chopped Camaro:

'The new stang looks good to me. Tried to buy a Camaro but cannot see out of the damn thing. And you think the 900 interiors were bad? Will. like OP drive a 15 GT when they cool off. Cannot see me buying a ford but really want a 2dr v-8 bigger than the vett. Camaro looks ok on the outside, but sitting in one just does not work for me. Will see how the stang looks in person. With the IRS and what they learned from the Boss may make a nice ride in the GT."
