2011 Silverado intake question

What intake would anyone recommend? I have a 2011 Silverado with 5.3L. I'm looking at the Volant but hesitant because of the $400 price tag, any recommendations?

Airaid showed the best numbers overall and is actually reasonably priced. You can just go for the new tube and will seen gains or get the tube and a high flow air filter like K&N etc. and see slightly more gains if I remember the black bear test correctly.

I have used almost each kind out there over the yrs, this time i tried an 'S&B' intake, It was 228$ and works great.

I'm getting the Volant for my truck, the kit I will be getting has the Donaldson PowerCore air filter. The quality of the Volant looks to be really good, plus I love those Powercores, They are one of the best filters out there. It's a dry 'paper' filter so, no cleaning/oiling or worrying about wrecking the MAF sensor.

Personally there isn't a ton to gain from an intake on some stock naturally aspirated truck.... beyond cleaning up the engine bay and intake noise. This is a comparo shot of the GMT800 and GMT900 air boxes. I post this because it shows what you GMT900 guys actually have under your hoods.

 

The GMT900 box is the one with the big opening on the left. I personally would cut the divider bar out of it, make sure the fender opening then matches the box and add a MIT tube if you want a cleaner look. I did all of the above things I just mentioned on my 05 1500HD..... it made a difference.... mostly in noise, lol. It does pull better up top but my truck was a lot more restricted from the factory than a GMT900.

 

I use the stock style paper filters as I don't like oiled ones much personally.

I have the GM Performance Intake on my truck, but it's not available any more. If I was buying one now I would go with just the airaid tube, and an Amsoil dry filter.

If you want something just buy the tube and use the stock air box. CAI are a big waste of money as there is nothing to gain but a little more noise which sounds like you have more power but you dont. Dont believe what you read on the box or internet website for that product

 

Of course a company sells or recommends and product is a company that is trying to make money and is a sales person for that companys product.

Really!?! Thanks for the heads up but I've changed my mind on getting an intake and I'm gonna leave this truck alone. I just was going for better filtration, but it seems the stock factory filter works just fine.

My Brother this weekend just took off his oiled air filter crap after the MAF sensor screwed up. He cleaned the intake and ended up going to the wreckers and replacing everything back to stock.

Stay with the dry filters(NON OILED).

 

And threw out his Volant intake !!

People have problems when the filter is over oiled. I ran a K&N on my 1995 camaro for over 100,000 miles with no issues, 50,000 on my current truck, no problems, etc.. Do I think they make as much power as the company's say,???? I like the fact that I can swap it out, clean it, let it dry and oil it and put it back on with little hassle.

I think cleaning it, letting it dry, oiling it up and putting it back in is a hassle.
