BFG All Terrains

I have a 2011 Silverado crew cab z71 with factory 18's. awhile back I had a 99 silverado and cranked the torsion bars and put 285 BFG AT's on it. Right now I've just got Bridgestone 265/65r18 tires now but I need new tires. What's the biggest I can go? Can I get 285s and crank the torsion bars on the newer trucks? Can't decide between mud terrains and all terrains. Thanks for any help!

The newer GMT900 trucks do not have torsion bars,so you can't "crank them up",you would have to install a front leveling kit as most of us on here have done,I went with an 1.5" kit (along with 1" rear lift blocks as well)

That being said, every truck seems to sit a little different from the factory,so the only way to know for sure if 285's would fit is to try them,I did install my 275/65R18's before I installed my front leveling kit and had no issues.

Lots of room for 285 with a leveling kit, but Invest in better tires... BFG's are an out of date tire with much better tires out there for a better price these days

Moving to the tire thread

I run 275/70/18 with a 2" RC level kit

33" tires

What tires do you suggest?

BFG makes very good tires. You rarely hear of issues. The perform great

Overpriced in many sizes though. I haven't looked for this truck but they were nearly $100/tire more for the Taco.

Toyo open country a/t2's... I'm running them on mine, great tire... Guaranteed to last 55000 miles with lt's and 65,000 on p rated tires....

BFG's to me people buy em for looks, that's it

I seen so many sets worn to fast, cupped, scalloped and just plain and simply overpriced... They are a super picky tire with balance, alignment... You have to baby them to make em last and get your money's worth with them

I had General Grabber AT2s on the Tacoma. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat for this truck.

To the OP, yes, with a leveling kit, you can run 275/70/18 or 285/65/18 tires. I'm a huge fan of BFG all terrains. I've had multiple sets, and have been very happy with them. Although they're not totally awesome in any one type of terrain....they perform really well at almost everything except deep mud...but that's to be expected for an all terrain. My last set of BFG's had 40k on them when I traded my truck, and they were just under half-tread. I'd recommend BFG's any day, if you can get past the initial price. That being said, I'm also very happy with my current Cooper Discoverer AT3's.

+1!!!!

Had it not been for the price, I would have went with the BFG A/T's over the Cooper A/T3's. That said, I have been happy so far with the Cooper A/T3's. I have had them about 5-6k mi so far. Couple snow storms pulling the 10' R&R clamshell snowmobile trailer, and they performed well.

I went with 275/65/18's on my '10 CCSB Z71 4x4, no issues and I have Weathertech mud flaps.

Good luck deciding!
