When you do decide to go check it out, make sure you go straight to the gun counter and take a number, it'll be a long wait to look at anything....Be sure take your checkbook, you're going to need it! It's much safer than carrying cash at a place like that. Far to many people walking around and I highly doubt someone would turn in a wad of cash when they find it.

I do everything on the debit card for security. Checks are a huge pain in the butt and when you use the debit card it has the same protections as a Visa charge card. I rarely carry large quantities of cash, if any at all since everywhere takes plastic. And I probably wouldn't buy guns there, from what I hear prices aren't all that good typically. I'm sure I'll visit at some point just for the hell of it just because they're neat stores. Plus buying guns from big box stores is a hassle- when I got my 10/22 at Wal Mart years ago it involved more people than a damn space shuttle launch then the manager insisted on carrying the box to the door "so not to make other customers worry about you walking around with a gun." The rifle came in a plain white box and regardless I had a P229 strapped to my waist anyhow. I didn't feel the need to share that tidbit though.

Well there are only two items I currently want beyond ammo and that would be the Sig P556 which is on back order through like November and a semi-nice 1911. No preference on brand beyond it not being Kimber. I've heard to many trouble stories about their pistols. Probably be a Sig, Springfield or a Colt. We'll see.

I went there today and bought 5 boxes of 9mm Luger. They had a shelf full of ammo. Also reasonably priced. Grown men and women all over that handgun ammo like a pack of wolves who hadn't eaten in months  They restock the shelves daily from what I heard, I will be returning!

Cabela's is the place to buy rifles, they are fairly priced....STAY AWAY from the pistols though, the prices are insane!

Mike if you are looking for a good 1911, Don't forget about Remington. I picked one up a couple years ago (1911 R-1) when they reintroduced them, pretty nice guns. Colt is the original though, hard to beat a Colt Govt. model. Ithica also makes a nice 1911 and are priced right.

The Kimber pistols are overpriced and tend to have fitment issues sometimes. Nothing worse then buying a new gun and having to send it out to the company for repairs.

I was trying to find a Marlin 39A 22, the prices on new ones are killer and Marlin build quality is at an all time low seems like. Off to the used gun section I go!! Some Cabelas have a really good used selection.

I've always liked Colt but never paid their models much attention but when I hit the range yesterday the RSO was shooting his Colt Combat Commander. From 1974! And he could make that damn thing work still. Quarter size groups at about 25' firing pretty quickly.

The Springfield and Colt 1911's aren't as great as once thought, Colt doesn't even build theirs, the just tell another arms company which pieces to use! The Sigs are spot on, but Taurus makes a quality piece as well! As for Kimber, their cheaper ones are that cheap ( *they also make another well known company's 1911), but the higher end stuff is actually great shooters!

I love going to Cabela's because it's fun to look but I'm never tempted to buy usually because their prices are so high on the stuff I like..... I've got a mom and pop larger type sporting goods store i like better that is big enough with two locations that they buy in volume but small enough that they are always cheaper than Cabela's... That's the one I have to be afraid to go in....

Something now very well known is the flaw with the Visa Debit, this was on that national financial show(forgot the name, the famous one), he said he had seen this happen many times:

People lose the card, their bank account is empty very quickly, and if they have overdraft protection, they people keep going. Every purchase that uses overdraft will incur the fee. You will get refunded the stolen money, but NOT necessarily the FEES. He said he's seen national banks make people pay hundreds in overdraft fees from stolen purchases, even though they were off the hook for the purchase cost itself.

That said, when I bought my two S&W M&P shield's at Academy a few years ago(release day, I was very lucky as they were so scarce for so long), they did the same thing, an employee is holding it for you until you are a few feet from the door. Seems funny when you have your CCW on you at the time.

I have a cabela's in hamburg PA which is about 45 mins from me. the store is HUGE, there is a mountain and river in the store

It takes me about 45min. to get there as well. I actually spend more time there than I should, definitely spend far to much money there too. Luckily my 'other half' doesn't mind because she hunts/fishes and enjoys firearms too. Huge store and top of the line gear. If you need something for hunting/fishing and it's not in the store, you probably don't beed it.

I always go down when they have hinting rifle sales, great prices on them all year round. Friendly staff and store is always filled with classy people.

They are most likely still cleaning up my drool from when our store opened. Hard to justify wants vs need, though.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
