Accidentally put Flex intake manifold on Gas engine - 2004 5.3

Hello all,

By not looking closely enough and clicking a bit too quick to check out, I ended up ordering GM part 89017365 which is the Intake manifold for an 04 FlexFuel 5.3. It appears I should have ordered 89017363 which is the same part for an 04 Gas 5.3. I just discovered this after getting ready to sell my old intake on Craigslist. The two intakes looked 100% identical, and I had no issues putting the 89017365 on my 04 Sierra 5.3 non-Flex model. I did this after changing my knock sensors for the second time since my original intake with 225K miles looked pretty nasty on the inside and I scored a sweet deal on a brand new ACDelco model with gaskets (green).

So..........it's been a couple of weeks and I have no issues. Knock sensor CEL went off and no other codes have triggered since. Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

Hmm i really don't see what would be different other then the flexfuel version having rubber and plastics able to withstand the alcohol in E85.

I agree, the flex fuel intake will be compatible with e85, non-flex fuel intake will not be. Flex fuel intake on non-flex fuel engine is better than non-flex intake on a flex fuel engine. No issues for you to be concerned with.

Yep - if you live in MA your better off having flex parts. That's why I bought a flex-fuel truck. I'll never run E85 in it, but at least I know it'll last with the 20% ethanol that's mixed with our fuel unbeknownst to most drivers. Biggest scam going that nobody talks about. :nonod:

Farmers and politicians slipped it under the rug years ago. I never remembered seeing litigation go through, and I use to watch the news a lot, other than one day looking at the pumps and it said 10% ethonal max. In Maine, their logging and fishing industries have been so negitively affected by ethanol that they are going back to ethanol free gas.

Here in Florida we just rescinded the ethanol mandate, forget when it actually starts though. The fishing/boating industry here claimed huge losses because of the ethanol when they first mandated it.

Yep - that's the MA way. Slip the law through by the dark of night on a Friday or Holiday weekend, and nobody says a peep about it. Sad part is, we have a federal government now using the same playbook. :nonod:

At least ME & FL have some politicians with some common sense. God knows we don't! I could go on about this all night ....
