Sorry NH! No Suburus for this Redneck Boy from Alberta! hahaha

We can not buy Harleys or any other North American built cars and trucks. By that I mean cars and trucks a normal MAN would drive. No Jap junk for me!

We can only buy used ! As soon as I tell a US Gm dealer that I am from Canada they say have a nice day and walk away!

Any GM, Harley dealer caught selling to a Canadian can get in big kaka!

Yes there is a process for bringing them across the border, used and we have to pay 5%Goods and Services Tax and processing fee of a few hundred$$$$$

If this was true NH there would not be a GM, Ford or Dodge dealer in Canada within 200miles of the border! This is exactly why it is in place! To protect the Canadian dealers. Harleys are really bad. My bike is a US bike that I bought used with a few thousand miles on it. A Calgary Harley dealer will not even work on it. As soon as they see it is a US bike they tell me to take it to a US dealer. And then I put all the leather and accessories I was going to buy and put them back on the shelf and walk out!

I buy all my car / truck accessories and bike accessories when I am in Mesa every winter.

I actually called GM Canada about this a few years ago and the lady I spoke to told me that they "Charge What the Market Will Bare". When I search the GM Canada website for a vehicle I have to enter my postal code so I get the right price for my area. In Alberta we even pay more than people in eastern Canada do let alone the US.

Maybe only the import brands do it then. But I do know it is popular as every time I cross into Canada for work trips someone is there doing the paperwork to import a US-bought vehicle to Canada. And the whole thing with minimal fees applies only to NA-built vehicles, if it were built overseas you'd have to pay a rather hefty tariff on it from what I understand. The Subaru I had (less than a year before I realized even though it was fast I missed having a truck too much () was made in Indiana. I'm sure there is more to it as I obviously haven't looked into it too closely.

That is right! Yeah lot of Canadians do import cars and trucks. The only ones I know that allow it on new is Toyota and Honda and it sounds like Suburu. I think some sneeky US dealers will take a new car/truck, drive it around the block a few times and write USED on the bill of sale. And it is not the Canadain or US governments who stop it. It is the car / Harley Davidson that stops it.

The thing though with Harley Davidson that is great is that their prices kind of follow the what the dollar is doing. Back a couple of years ago when the Canadian dollar was worth $1.12 American a Harley actually cost less in Canada.

Anyways enough trade talk! Sorry Ryan that I side tracked your thread!

No big deal

We have the same thing with pricing in the state, it's by zip codes and regions

What about warranty? I heard most all won't service vehicles from USA in Canada.

Warranty is fine. They get paid by GM to do that! It is easy money!

Not on Harley's though! They won't even look at a Canadian who bought a US bike! The stupid thing is that there is a guy in Vancouver (Trev Deeley) who back in the 50's or 60's gained exclusive Canadian rights to anything Harley. In fact if you want to open a new Harley store in Canada you have to get permission from this guy! He must have caught one of the Davidson's with a sheep or something because to this day they are still anal about it!

I bought my Harley from an independent dealer up here in Camrose, Alberta called House of Thunder. He goes to US and buys low mileage Harley's (completely legal) and brings them back here and sells them. If you did not know his store was not a Harley dealer you could never tell. He told me he gets harassed by Deeley reps all the time.

Stupid protectionist crap! My grandfather was from Oklahoma so I guess I must still have some American blood in me. This stuff makes me boil!

I could go on forever!

I am not a fan of the chrome clad rims but these were decent. I would prefer an aluminum but could live with these.

Also there seems to e more paint protection on the bottom rockers

Just looked at GMC and Chevy today. Lots side by side and they were closed.

GMC has a real nice looking bright machined aluminum 20" wheel that looks very nice. Much better than the chrome bs they have been using. It is a $950 or so option.

Yes the anti chip paint is there but they do not come up but a couple of inches with it. The area between the bottom of door and belt line body strip will continue to chip like my 09. Toyota takes the anti chip up further to the strip.

The GMC LTs have body colored door strip. The SLTs have the chrome strip. The body colored looks better to me. Also not a fan of the chrome window strip.

Some have said that the cabin is larger. What they did is move the B-pillar 2" inches forward for easier egress and ingress on the rear door. This brings the b-pillar into play for me and other taller guys. I could see a lot of the b-pillar now when looking out. Also I rubbed the b-pillar seals on getting out. And the seat seems further in changing the way you get in.

Will drive one next week. Have always bought gmc but the Chevy looks good too. Not a fan of the larger rear door. Looks unbalanced now like the Toyota. Will see. The tan and coca interior looked ok.

I was under the impression that there was more brand separation on the K2s than in previous models. My observation says otherwise though. Look at the 900s. Different front and rear quarter panels, different hood, different molding/trim. I like the styling on the 14s not complaining. Just an observation. Only real difference is decal placement and of course the front end. I say less separation and not really happy about being told lies. Oh sorry, I did forget GMC has those little plastic trim pieces on the fenders. Let's not forget those.

Does it matter if they're drastically different? They've always supported themselves sales wise even when there was no difference. I need to see both in person but the GMC looks killer.

The option packages are laid different. You can get the off road package seperate from the all terrain on the GMC but on the Chevy they combined the Z71 off road package with the apperance package now. Wish they would have kept them apart.

Any pics of this fabric liner! As a guy who washes his wheel wells on every wash they better clean up good or this will be enough to send me somehwere else. I realize this is sound deadening but damn if you want a car buy a car!

I'll get u a picture of the wheel liner.. I thought this was a mistake but I have already gotten quite a bit of mud on my and washed it. It's seem easier to wash the wells now, it comes off easier

I'm partial to the Chevy because of the grill, but I like the wheels on the GMC. I like that the All Terrain pkg can get the painted bumpers hopefully this will be option on Chevy. Really dislike new Chevy Z71 decals, GMC Z71 decal looks cool. I hate how they are apparently branding the Z71 without the 4X4 part so that people too cheap to buy a 4wd don't feel bad about their mall crawler

    • This is interesting. My quote tagged here is different from my original quote. After I’m driving them longer. That isn’t me. I don’t talk that way. I definitely wouldn’t express myself that way. Interesting.
    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps.
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O.
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
