Denali and 6.2L Revealed!

Honestly, I'm not terribly impressed with the Denali. Looks too Tonka-like to me. I also prefer the Silverado over the Sierra, which is the opposite of my preference for the GMT-900 series. Oh well... not going to get a new one for a long, long time anyway!

The vette guys are whining about the same peak hp numbers, peak hp only means so much. Looking at the way these new motors make power this new 6.2 should pretty much stop the outgoing 6.2 by a good margin. The torque curve is instant are very strong down low and mid range.

How is 420 HP not impressive? It beats everyone else and is only 40 HP below the new Vette.

 

Yea and it's only 17hp more than the current 6.2L. Whoopee. Doesn't matter anyhow because the torque is all that matters really. Hopefully it's at a low enough rpm to be usable.

 

The Vette is 460. You're not getting a GM vehicle that makes near Corvette power unless you buy a Corvette.

I think most people were expecting an increase the same or better than the 5.3 increase. We may see this type of increase with the final numbers. It's better to under-promise and over-deliver than to over-promise and under-deliver.

 

5.3 Gained (Gasoline)

355 HP = 315 + 40

383 TQ = 335 + 48

 

6.2 Possible Gain (baised off at least 5.3 gains)

443 HP = 403 + 40

465 TQ = 417 + 48

Not sure if you seen this article already, but.

 

"After the power numbers for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray were discovered in a PDF file this past Friday, Chevy has announced the official power figures that its direct-injected 6.2L V8 LT1 produces. They are an SAE-rated 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) with the standard exhaust system.

However, those who opt for the performance exhaust system will see a power bump to 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft — 30 hp more than the outgoing base Corvette — while highway fuel economy is expected to exceed 26 mpg. Acceleration to 60 mph is expected to be less than four seconds, and the near-flat torque curve promises to give the naturally-aspirated V8 engine the push it needs to accelerate the Vette quickly in just about any gear: 316 lb-ft is already available at 1,000 rpm, and 90 percent of peak torque can be found between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm."

Since the same engine is being used in the vette as the Sierra were probably looking at 420-450 hp/ 450-460 torque on the sierra.

Interesting IMO they will put the truck hp @ 420-425 ish for the 6.2 they will never give the trucks Corvette HP numbers. But for those that want more the aftermarket folks will allow those numbers to be increased with tunes and exhaust kits within a couple months. Plus GM will bump the numbers in a couple years when they do upgrades and a so called refresh. They got to leave room for increases in the future.

I feel like they could have done more with the Denali. Other than the grill and dash it doesn't seem that much above the SLT.

 

Was hoping for more.

 

I feel like the Denali interior should be completley different(better) then the SLT.. the point of getting a Denali (IMO) is to have the best truck, not another plain old sierra with LED's and chrome things all ove it.

 

still is a great looking truck, glad GM kept it pretty conservative, looks great.

Nerf bars need to die. Either none or deployable(AmpResearch). They look ridiculous.
