Ok technical question guys! I am trying to figure out what my stock offset is on my 2015 Silverado Z71 w/ 18'' x 8.5'' wheels. I have found very conflicting info! 4 different place have told me 4 different things. Discount tire says its 38mm...which I believe to be true. However, I took the wheel off myself to look at it and its stamped saying the offset is 24mm.

Just to confirm it, I measured it myself. And came up with 38mm! The backspacing was 5.75''...which is 146.05mm. Now here's the math.... 216mm is the total wheel width. 108mm is half the wheel width. 108mm plus 38mm (which will give you the backspacing measurement) is 146!. Which confirms my measurement. So why does the wheel have 24mm stamped on it?? And which is it?

Pleeeease fill me in on how I could be mistaken. I am trying to figure out what kind of offset I want to run. And I can't make a guess until I know what I have to begin with to compare them. Thanks.

Thanks, it's the go rhino 3171b. To answer your questions about tow mirrors, is just plug and play. Regular mirrors have 3 mounting bolts, most tow have 4 but the place on the door to drill is there you just have to drill it.

I would go by what is stamped on the wheel.

I personally thought it was +27, but that might have been for the 20" wheels.

x2 on the mirrors. Took less than an hour; easy to drill 4th hole.

Biggest pain is CAREFULLY removing the hockey-stick wood trim to get to bolts. Look up 2014 silverado door panel removal on youtube - you'll know exactly what you are doing after that.

Total wheel width on a 8.5" rim is 9.5" (241 mm). The 8.5" is the width of the seating surface for the tire bead not the actual total outside width. A bit confusing but backspacing is measured from the outside edge of the backside of the wheel. Offset is +/- from wheel center.

Thanks! It's a bone stock no frills truck that will slowly evolve into something a bit nicer...

The guy who runs the shop I go to (Plaza Muffler in Orange, CA) allows the customer to try out different mufflers in order to get the sound they are looking for – so I will try at least two. I myself have always been a FlowMaster guy but those are more suited for muscle cars IMO. After watching YouTube videos on the systems put out by Borla, FM, Gibson (There are some good vids by Kinney’s Mufflers in Texas for Silverados), I’ll probably go with a Magnaflow single in, dual out as I really don’t want drone or have it be too loud. I will post pics when I’m done.

That opens up a whole new discussion – cold air intakes.

Total wheel width on a 8.5" rim is 9.5" (241 mm). The 8.5" is the width of the seating surface for the tire bead not the actual total outside width. A bit confusing but backspacing is measured from the outside edge of the backside of the wheel. Offset is +/- from wheel center.

Now I get it....Thats confusing since some site calculators calculate backspacing from the outside edge of the whee, just like you said, and others (wheel-size.com for instance) calculates it considering only the width of the seating surface. Their diagrams show that backspacing distance considers the outside edge, but their calculations don't. Thanks for the help! But that leads me to me next question...

Another question about offset!

I am considering buying the XD 822 Monster 2 wheel in 18x9. Does a wheel manufacturer change the depth that the middle portion of the wheel is recessed into the outside of the wheel with the change in offset? Or do they change the offset by simply changing the thickness of the middle portion of the wheel?

I ask because I have seen a few pictures where the wheels look nice with a more neutral looking offset. And others where the wheel looks pretty flat and I don't like the look. I am hesitant to buy the wheel because I don't want the wheel to have a +1 offset, but still have the hub portion of the wheel sitting almost flush with the front edge of the wheel. If I buy the +1 offset, I want the center of the wheel to be more recessed into the wheel to give it some depth.

Another technical question, but I hope someone understands what I'm asking!

Idk Could be tho cus they had 15 dropped and now they have that 16 like that. But it would be to much money. Look at the grill where it meets the hood my 14 doesn't have that curve so he needed a new hood and whole new front. Cheaper to trade in and use your drop kit on the new one.
