2014 Sierra with "express rust protection" NIGHTMARE

I just traded in an 08 sierra for a 2014 Sierra SLT crew cab, Z71, sticker just under 50k.

I purchased the dealers' "full package" which included "express rust protection".

This "express rust protection" looks to me like a rubberized/tar/paint.

There is "undercoating" overspray everywhere, including, but not limited to:

- area between bed and cab, top to bottom, easily noticeable from the side of truck

- All 4 "felt like" wheel wells have thick overspray

- factory mud flaps in front of rear tires

- inside area of factory 20" chrome/aluminum rims

- assist streps/running boards

- the bottom of both sides of the truck

- behind the rear bumper up to the bottom of the bed

- rancho shocks

- the entire exhaust system including the exhaust manifold covers/heat shields.

- radiator hose lines

- "caked" on the bottom of brake lines

- driveshaft

They also put on some type of "water- based" tire shine, that looks like the guy put

enough on each tire for 2-3 trucks. I'm not sure if its the "thick tire shine" or the overspray

but there are black spots all over the sides of the truck, including but not limited to the plastic

fender lip covers and the freaking ROOF!!!!!!! :freak:

I have and appointment to drop it off and the dealer tomorrow. I think it will take a few

days.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Talk about taking all the fun out of buying a new truck.

(i was under the truck today and noticed large areas that should have been

sprayed but were not)

Not to be rude but, why did you purchase this truck looking like this? If it were that bad it should not have left the lot till YOU were satisfied!

I didnt purchase the truck like this, LOL.

This was a dealer applied service that was sold/recommended to me at time of purchase. It was applied after the purchase.

considering you will likely only keep the truck for 7 years ( give or take) do you really think you even need this? unless you drive through salt everyday .. I can imagine the truck rusting away. where do you live?

Ok hopefully you pointed these issues out to your salesman and they get them fixed for you.

yes i have, and have talked to the customer care specialist/head of service dept. and

have been very disappointed in the dealership in general.

This is my third new gmc truck from this dealership. And also most likely the last.

The situation is so bad that i had to call gmc and get one the liasons involved.

I guess if they dont clean it perfectly, the DMA or district manager of aftersales

will be involved.

i really only wanted the paint protection, but it was sold as a package. And no i dont think i need it. I never thought though that it would be so sloppily applied.

Ok.. I see. The whole thing is another dealer scam. "paint protection" .. they basically just waxed your truck. The truck already come with some nasty tar undercoat substance to help underneath

Just say no...

Seconding this. The dealership packages are just quick ways for them to add margin to a sale. The paint protection is nothing special, you're much better off waxing and detailing it yourself, it'll be much, much cheaper.

The frames on these trucks come coated from the factory anyhow. If you're keeping it long enough that rust may be a concern, every year I just crawl under the truck with a few cans of Tremclad black, some POR15 or any of the rust reacting/sealing paints that you can get from a body shop.

How much did you pay for this snake oil? Take it back and demand a new truck. The loud wheel gets the grease.

When you point out the coating on the wheels, make sure to post the stupid response they give you about why they need to intentionally put rust proof coating on aluminum wheels.

I have already done that, and i'm not sure that demand is gonna end anytime soon.

The dealership is a joke

I have heard so many stupid things from the people at the dealership about this issue that it might take up all the bandwidth of this site to post it all.

Just a little fyi guys, the paint protection isn't 'just wax". It's a Teflon based sealant that gets absorbed into the clear coat AND paint. It's much more advanced than carnuba based wax. Modern technology is finding it's ways into everything now and this new Teflon stuff is no joke, it's leaps and bounds better than wax. Granted you don't have to get it done at the dealership, but to do it yourself once a year is all that's needed. As far as the rubberised undercoating go, it's good product that will last a lot longer than krown or something similar. It also makes the truck that much quieter again. It sounds to me like the dealership was just a hack when applying it. Others are right though, if your not going to have this truck for a quite a while, your not going to benefit from it. The guy who buys it off you will love you for it though haha.

And he damn sure won't pay extra for it!

You don't need it? Take a look at the undercarriages of some 5,4 he'll even 3 year old trucks and suv's in New England - I'm sure the east coast Canadians will agree also.

If you want to keep the truck long term and use it for what a truck is meant for and don't want to be driving around in a rust bucket then undercoating is a good idea.
