Auto Start and Heated Mirrors

Recommended Posts

Ok,I live in Anchorage, Alaska. Today was our first day of real snow (.2inches and 22' F) and it promptly rained and froze. I did not go anywhere today because of the bad, slick roads and my truck was frozen solid (2014 loaded LTZ). So I thought id try the autostart and see exactly what features worked. I noticed within 5 minutes the rear view mirrors were melting the ice and the rear window defogger was working too. After 10 minutes I checked the heated seats and while not hot they were warm. I have seen some threads on here wondering exactly how they work and I think this proves the said features do work when it is auto started..

Thanks for the info. I agree with what you said completely. If people would read and comprehend their owner's manual, they'd see that how you described is proper operation. It's not 100% like the older models, but when conditions warrant, the features work as they are supposed to. The seats don't get burning hot and they never have. The rear defogger "may" come on, same with mirrors. The HVAC doesn't come on unless controls are in the AUTO selection.

I still haven't figured out how to get the heated seats to come on with remote start. I have it selected in the intellilink settings but they aren't on when I get in. They work fine when used manually. I also have the heat settings on "auto" and tried it when it was below 0 degrees 'C.

This is the 1st vehicle I have had with heated seats. I don't know what to compare them to as in previous years. I remote started my truck at 43 degrees on the readout inside the truck after I got in. The seats were slightly warm NOT butt burning warm. I believe that's what you guys are looking for out of them and it's just not the case. The next day it was the same thing. Seats were slightly warm and were ready to go when I turned them on full blast. The passenger seat even warms up. You can try what another guy on here did and place a folded towel in the seat. Remote start it and place your hand in between the seat and towel when you open the door. I wanted to add that the heated mirrors work with remote start as well. I have never touched that button on my truck except to turn them off and it has worked every time.

This!

Also the lights for the heated seats will not come on while remote started and once you turn the key will have hit the heated seats button.

I just wish the heated stearing wheel came on with the remote start...

I'm sure most people who have commented on this do not expect them to be hot! We are comparing to the previous generation, where they at least felt slightly warm after a couple minutes of remote start. That is no longer the case. The "towel trick" shouldn't be necessary to be able to tell if the damn seats are warming up or not...

Well as stated. I have never had heated seats in my previous trucks. I would not have gotten the heated seats anyway since I was not wanting

them. It just happens the truck my dealer found had them. I'm happy with the way mine work now. If yours are not working take it back to the dealer or go buy something else.

Just for comparison, the seat heater lights are lit in the GMT900 when remotely started in cold conditions.

Wonder why GM went away from this?

The light does not come on my 2011 2500 SLT when remote started. (It works the same as outlined in the manual for the 2014 1500's)

IIRC, I have come across differences in programming between 1500's and 25/3500's before.

How cold does it have to be before the heated mirrors come on? Tried mine at about 40 F and nothing,, would be nice for them to come on and clear the fog off them, My 2010 GMC Sierra worked fine,, I complained to GM, nothing was said about having to be freezing outside for them to come on. Yes,, I have read and reread the owners manual, so I know the lights don't come on for the seats, and they don't get really warm. My seat heaters will come on,, but not the mirrors.

Setting info for heated/cooled seats:

From page 5-46:

Remote Lock, Unlock, Start

Select Remote Lock, Unlock, Start

and the following may be displayed:

. Remote Unlock Light Feedback

. Remote Lock Feedback

. Remote Door Unlock

. Remote Start Auto Cool Seats

. Remote Start Auto Heat Seats

from page 5-47:

Remote Start Auto Heat Seats

If equipped and turned on, this

feature will turn the heated seats on

when using remote start on

cold days.

Select Off or On. On some vehicles

select Off, On - Driver and

Passenger, or On - Driver.

This 'setting' was not required in the GMT900's.

I am doing some reading on this topic and it looks like the heated seats come on they just do not get hot only get warm. It is just now getting cold for the year. I have some questions for those of you it does work on. Do the lights for the heated seats come on while it is running in remote start mode? Also should it work when I start it with the remote app? I usually start it with the app while at work the remote wont reach.

Also do these trucks have heated mirrors?

Thanks

Edit I just re-read the manual and the indicator light does not come on.

I think it does it the wifes acadia.

If I am not mistaken GM included heated mirrors on all truck equipped with rear window defrost which should be standard in the SLT model, so yes your truck will have heated mirrors.
