I drive a 2014 gmc sierra 1500, it has 16,000 miles. it's been in the shop 3 months, gm doesn't know how to fix my truck. while driving stabili trek comes on, then power steering reduce drive with care, then my wheel will lock and ac turn on anD off and doors lock. I'm so fustrated, the dealer is supposedly waiting on an engineer from Michigan to look at My truck since the technical tack team don't know how to fix it.

Hi,

My name is Rick & I live in Catskill, N.Y.

I purchased my Chevy Silverado in May of 2014. I haven't had any real issues other than the recall stuff. But 2 days ago my truck wouldn't start. So I jumped it, took it for a 45 min drive & came home. Turned the truck off & tried to start it again, NOT!. Nothing. So I called my dealership & they said if I can jump it bring it down. So the next morning I do it all again. I stop at the local Hess & fill up. Take off, pull into traffic, tried making a right hand turn and my truck became possessed by SATAN! My steering wheel was violently turning right, then left repeatedly. No mind you, I'm trying to turn into traffic and am now driving into the opposite lane that is going the wrong way. I grabbed hard on the wheel let off on the gas, by the way no brakes, and now I am being tossed left and right as I am trying to pull the truck back into the right hand lane. I finally get it into the proper lane and the truck becomes normal again. WTF???

So, I go on to the dealership with no other issues but believe me I was taking my time. I pull into the dealership, get up to the garage door & it starts doing it again. I jump out of my truck & run and get one of the service reps & tell him that he has got to see this. He comes right out as I am explaining this stuff to him. He jumps in the truck, grabs the wheel and he gets the SATAN treatment as well. He had to let go of the wheel & stated that if he were to hold on to it that he would have broken his wrists! Another service rep was looking on in disbelief as this was all going down.

I have to tell you that I was sore the next day. My shoulder and left side of my back & chest were painful. This was unreal & I don't even want to get my truck back. I am not comfortable driving down the highway thinking that this sort of thing can happen at any moment going 65, 70 mph on the NYS Thruway and, then what? I don't want to even think about the fact of my kids or grandson with me....

I've had a truck do the same thing as yours with the steering. Luckily just in a parking lot. It also needed to be boosted and ended up having a dead cell in the battery. After replacing the battery everything was ok. So I'm sure it was a voltage issue to the steering control module. But either way it should not do that.

Well it seems GM hasn't fully resolved this issue. Really sucks!

I just bought a brand new 2016 Silverado LT, CC SB. less than 1500 miles and I'm getting the "steering assist reduced" message and the steering gets super tight. So far it's only happening at highway speeds (75-80mph).

We just made a 1200 mile trip and are FAR from home. It's now at a local dealer here in our vacation spot being checked out.

We are also getting a lot of whole vehicle vibration at highway speeds. I took video & pictures of it all. We'll see how it turns out in the next day or so.

Really disappointed! Worked really hard to get this truck.

I'll post back with findings, results, and repairs made.

I bought a 2016 Silverado LT 5.3 crew the last week of June 2016. this past Wednesday afternoon going to work I lost my power steering, this was at 5pm while at work I started up my truck at 10pm power steering worked fine. Stopped by dealer in the morning he had nobody available to look at it or check for codes. Friday morning after work driving home power steering goes out again. I only had to make 3 turns to get home so I drove the truck home and called Roadside Assist. for a tow. They plan on working on it Monday they were booked solid. I picked up a loaner today Saturday will update when I hear from them.

I bought a 2016 Silverado 1500 last Tuesday and on Wednesday the Service Power Steering light came on and I had no power steering. I took it in for a loaner Thursday when it happened again. They couldn't figure it out and called GM who told them to replace the fuse box. I picked it up Saturday morning and drove it till Sunday night and again... no power steering and a warning light is on. I literally have owned the truck for 5 days and it has been in the shop 2 already and is going back. I'm going to call GM and the GM of the dealership tomorrow to get this figured out.

Got in my new 17 silverado this morning and upon start up the info window showed (Steering assist is reduced drive with care). I dont have that option on my truck. Also said something about a secondary driver? no clue. It seems to drive fine but why the error messages. only 437 miles on it so far. been in for service 4 times already, this is a new issue. great!

These trucks do not have steering gear boxes anymore. Your steering shaft goes into an electrical steering piece of junk that will either send your vehicle into a direction you do not want to go.....or damn near snap your wrists off as it snaps your steering wheel around....

Lower your insurance deductable....you are about to file a collision claim.
