Made in Mexico?

GMC's are made in the same assembly plants as the Chevy.

I would say "assembled" in Mexico.

Parts are made all over including Mexico and end up in Mexico to be assembled.

"Assembled in the US" is a far more accurate description for many items advertised as "made in the US".

My 20 year old GE refrigerator is assembled in the US mostly from foreign made parts. When I needed to repair the fridge, ordered several parts from GE. The ice maker door solenoid was made in Mexico, the short wiring harness to the solenoid in China, and the display module in Taiwan. Then later I needed a bracket for one of the shelves. Again, made in Mexico. And the same thing for any other appliance.

Same thing happened to me. After I purchased my 2015 silverado I noticed the sticker says it was assembled in Mexico with 58% of the parts made in mexico. Last time I buy any car without first confirming where it was made. Foolish of me to assume that Chevy was an american made truck. So disapointed with Chevy and GM.

Actually mexico has a lot of car comp in their state. From Ford to gm, to Nissan , heck I think even benz has a plant there too . I agree with you to a certain extent but this is our reality now. if something is too expensive , another country will gladly take it

If you want to know the country any vehicle was assembled just look at the first digit in the VIN.

1 is US

2 is Canada

3 is Mexico

J is Japan

K is South Korea (I think).

The sole reason I didn't get a Crew Cab (even though a CC would be much better for my family) is because those are built in Mexico. Nothing against Mexico or their workers but I would rather buy a product made in the USA by Americans if possible. Both of our vehicles were built in the US: Wife's was built in Lansing (Chevy Traverse) and of course my Sierra double cab was built in Fort Wayne.

I believe Ford is the only manufacturer of the big 3 that doesn't have some of their manufacturing processes in Mexico. The engine and transmission assembly plant in Mexico for Chrysler/RAM is state of the art, virtually. The Silao plant is more or less the equivalent for the GM side. Most of the lower volume vehicles(2500-3500) is manufactured in the states, probably to do with the cost of overtime paid to American workers. We produce a lot of engine bearings for GM, Chrysler(includes Ram and Jeep), and Ford. It's insane how many vehicles the big 3 produce

I believe for GM only the Powertrain itself is manufactured in Mexico, unless i am mistaken

Ford does have some assembly going on in Mexico and from what I read they are looking to expand more to Mexico.

Before we bought our Traverse last year I was reading on a report similar to that. The Traverse/Acadia twins are in the top 5 in that list along with the Camry.

Mexico doesn't bother me at all. China bothers me.

And Ford does build vehicles in Mexico, just not their trucks - for right now.

Is this real life? Welcome to the 21st century and general design issues. GM could not get their products anywhere near perfection regardless of where they manufacture or assemble, now or then.

And it's not like using "american" factories make a difference, consider German manufacturers where their american production is considered the inferior level... it's all relative.
