Do you regret buying your 14 Silverado/Sierra

Just sold my 2011 Tacoma and bought my Silverado. Only had it a little over a week but I'm loving every minute driving it and don't regret the purchase at all so far. I went from a 4 cyl Tacoma to the 5.3 Silverado and loving the quiet comfortable ride, power, and all these new bells and whistles. Learning something new every day. DO IT MAN!

I also had a 2011 Tacoma. I traded it for Silverado.

The only issue I have with the Silverado is the FM radio reception.

No,zip, ziltch, zero, nada regrets. I traded my 09 for my Sierra and would do it again. Only thing I had was the seat recall and it took longer to drive to the dealer then it did to fix. It was just an inspection needed anyway.

Traded 2011 Silverado, I like the new truck better gas mileage, more comfortable, better quality interior only complaint is the audio system, the FM reception is terrible and I replaced the speakers because of the amount of distortion at even mid volume.

traded my '05 Tacoma for the '14 All terrain SLT. So far I really like it,I got the Sonoma red it is pretty in the sun,but boy does it show every spec of dirt. Should have gotten the silver,,just my last three trucks were silver, thought I'd step out of my comfort zone. I'm just not looking forward to any of the things that people on here talk about going wrong.

More than pleased with mine. You're just hearing all the whiners. I came from a 2012 Kia Optima SX. Now for a Kia its a pretty nice car, but I had a lot of issues with that car. I love the way this truck drives, handles, is quiet, has power, has 4x4. Very pleased

NO Had 2011, 2012 2013 Silverado's and Love my new 14. Awsome truck Completly different from my others.

just curious but why did you get a new truck every year?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to hear from former Tacoma owners. I agree, it sucks getting V-8 mileage from a V-6. I think the Silverado is the best looking full size. Don't like the painted silver trim on the f150, never liked anything Mopar, and the new Tundra is butt ugly and not efficient.

Steve,

I concur with my colleagues. My 2014 GMC is solid. I hate a 2011 GMC before that and a 2009 Chevy LTZ. No problems with my truck so far. I am only at 680 miles with most of that on Thanksgiving travel.

The redesign is light years from my old GMT900 trucks.

You picked a great time to trade. Visit edmunds.com for the latest pricing, invoice and rebate information.

No regrets here, 2014 LTZ 4x4. Quiet, great mileage, smooth ride and comfortable for a long trip. A couple of 11 hour days behind the wheel last month, still comfortable after that many hours driving.

Regrets? Absolutely. Most of the posts I've read sounds like the majority is still in the honeymoon phase. Give it a few months or a few thousand miles when stuff starts breaking.

That being said. This is a great truck compared to earlier years but it wasn't ready for primetime. GM should've worked out a lot more bugs before it's release.

I can understand having one or two issues but I've had nine and still counting. I am experiencing just about every issue or complaint on this forum.

No regrets here...I have been waiting for this bigger cab and longer box for a long time...long enough that I took some Fords for test drives...I love my new ride!

No regrets here, no issues so far. Much better initial quality than any of my previous GM or Ford trucks.

Absolutely no regrets, I would do it again in a micro-second. Maybe I'm still in the "honeymoon" stage but this is the best truck, no hell, it's the best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have owned 67 of them in my lifetime, 38 of which were new, and I have never owned one that looked, felt, and performed right out of the box, like my Denali does. Every thing looks good, everything works good, and it is definitely fun to drive. The guys are right, the FM reception does suck, but that is a very minor issue for me.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
