That's why there are different brands different taste. Shit huh I guess manner wasn't somthing you grasp growing up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I believe you meant manners.....Manners has nothing to do with it, one thing I am not afraid of is the "truth" and from my experience that was the truth. Enjoy what you've done, I for one thought it sounded ghetto. Hence the reason I've made two changes since. We all have our own taste. Clearly you like it, enjoy!

Anyone running the aFe catback? Found a single side exit in stainless steel with the polished tip for $377 shipped on AutoAnything and looks very tempting... I called aFe directly and asked about the "drone". The gentleman said that their system is not as aggresive as others on the market and they are not known for drone. He said you will hear the exhaust, as with any catback "performance" exhaust, but it is not annoying. I am having trouble finding any sound clips with it on the 5.3L.

It was for the humor effect leaving the s off, trying to keep it lite. But after the ghetto remark, I guess you didn't pick it up. As the saying goes another mans trash is another mans treasure. Lots of people on here like the sound, being the cats act as mufflers as well.

Well, manners obviously isn't his strong suite in that particular post, but the man did get his point across. I sure as heck wasn't thinking ... "I wish I would have cut my muffler off" when I got done reading his colorful commentary but to be honest even if it does sound bad, it has to sound better than stock.

Sometimes there is a cheep way that works for some people. I like to point that out when I can. Sound is a matter of taste, just like wheels. I could never tell someone there ride looks or sounds like shit. I love cars and trucks, anybody's creation is cool to me.

Had a custom cat back system built by ABC Muffler in Edmonton Alberta. Magnaflow 12288 muffler and dual 4" stainless tips tucked right behind each rear wheel, awesome job, but very loud, drones between 1,800 and 2,000 RPM under load. When you put your foot in it, man it sounds great! Might have to put a couple of small resonators before each tip. So heads up for anyone looking to make there 5.3 sound like a big block old school muscle truck.

I understand the helping people out statement, I too try to do the same. My comments were not related to you or your ride, only my experience. If your happy with it, great. Some will be happy with the muffler delete, I wasn't! Granted you will have more exhaust decibels, just not a deep throaty sounds. I would best describe it as a burble. Louder-yes just not what I wanted. Key word is I.

I'm curious if you notice this "drone" when V4 is activated? I see you wrote under load, hence my question. I've got a 14" magnaflow and third cat delete with DoD turned off, I don't have any drone that I can detect. Just curious.

. I left everything else on for now, to me kind of sounds like the old thrush from the seventies. It's not loud or raspy at all. I know a real good bender, been using him for 30 years so it's not unusual for me to play with exhaust. When you have all those cats I figured that was enough restriction, removing the third cat may change the sound to annoying, than Ill play with different mufflers. For someone on a budget what I did May work for them.

There is a slight drone on the V4, but mostly when it's on V8. Now' I'm curious, the third cat you are talking about is just before the muffler correct? I've heard people saying the third cat was by the tailpipe, but I'm sure that was just a resonator. What is "DoD", I'm guessing you have a tuner, which tuner is it? I'm worried about warranty issues so I'm not to inclined to remove the cat or install a tuner as I was told by my dealer if I do either it will void my warranty.

No, it's where the two manifolds connect and yes before the muffler (look like cat_zpsed7e16c7.jpg[/url])

DoD='s V4. I wasn't to worried about warranty but that's just me. Yes I have mine tuned.

Absolutely agree that this may work for some on a budget, hell I did it just to see what it sounded like. It wasn't to my liking so I changed it out to a fake magnaflow (it actually wasn't a whole lot better then muffler delete). So I decided that I wanted to remove the third cat in doing so it was discovered that my Magnaflow was a fake and the muffler shop used some 2" pipe to run the exhaust out the back. I had it all replaced with 3" and a real Magnaflow 14" with the third cat cut out. Now it sounds like I wanted it to initially. It's not raspy, deep and throaty best describes it.

Short video of 2014 Sierra 5.3L custom Cat Back using Magnaflow 12288 Muffler and 4" stainless tips just behind rear wheels. Drone under load at about 1,800RPM.
