Are you referring to the resonator way in the back? the 3rd cat is just after the Y-pipe and before the Muffler.

Yes, I was referring to the Cat before the muffler, I described it in reverse.

Did you remove everything from (including) the third cat on and replace it with the muffler and tailpipes?

Looking to do this with as little drone as possible.

Thanks

3rd cat? I thought it was just another resonator. Im kind of sitting on the fence about cutting that out im pretty happy with the

sound of my borla cat back. I will post pics maybe this weekend, the roads are getting really messy now so it wont look pretty

I don't think it would affect sound as much as it would affect flow. If it's not needed why keep it in.

mzodarg,

I read all your posts and I want to the same thing, MagnaFlow 18" one in / two out for the 5.3. I read that you removed the flapper valve and the resonator. Did they also remove the 3rd Cat way in the back? Was that put back on? Your sound is perfect!

I have yet to remove the third cat, next on the list. icry removed his and put on a flow master 70 series, sounds damn good!

I've also have began to street tune my truck, first thing I did was turn DoD off, no more 4 cylinder mode or slight drone!!

Mike.

Ok, so the FlowMaster 853072 or the MagnaFlow 18"?

Either way, I'm cutting out the 3rd cat, all the way to the tailpipes

I wouldn't call it drone, your running on four cylinders and it is a definite audible difference.

Somebody was saying that it's easy to gut the 3rd cat when the exhaust is unbolted. Can anybody confirm?

It's easy to get to...I'm not so sure how easy it is to get the new catalyst inside apart though, then rev engine to blow it out or stand truck up on tailgate. Old catalysts would come apart easy, I have never tried to break up a new one.

That person should do a write up,...because I would subscribe to that thread.

It's probably easier to just have it cut out.. Even if you live in an area that tests emissions. No difference between gutting it and it not being there at all..

After much research I decided to go with Magnaflow kit # 15269. Cat back, full stainless steel system. Install was a breeze and it sounds fantastic. Inside the cab you can hardly notice it while cruising but get on the gas and the truck sounds awesome!!!!!
