andythefiredog Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 So to be warranty-denial-proof, should the 3rd cat stay as is? I'm not sure just how much more freely flowing the exhaust will be without it. If it's 2%,5%,15%, I'd probably just leave it on.
llucas Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 does anybody have the part number for the 18 inch Magnaflow muffler? i'm assuming it's the round muffler, but there are different lengths of the round muffler. Also for the 5.3, it's 3" in and 3" out correct?
mzodarg Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I just went to another muffler shop that came highly recommended to have them remove the third cat. Once they got it up on the lift, lo and behold the shop who supposedly installed a magnaflow 18" in fact installed an 18" clone and used a much smaller diameter pipe to run the exhaust out to the tips. Granted I take a lot of the blame as I took the original shop for there word (shame on me) They lost a long standing customer. Anyway, The new performance muffler shop, removed the third cat and install a 14" magnaflow ( my DoD is turn off and I like the noise) ran all 3" pipe and I can tell you what a fing difference. I'm sure mostly do to the third cat, the 14" SS magnaflow sounds amazing and no drone I can hear. The shop did all this for $320. I guess I need to go back to the other shop and get a kiss.

Just curious you said tips referring to the first mod on the exhaust. If so two smaller pipes would flow the same or better the one 3 inch. Just didn't want you to feel rip offed if that was the case.

I'd go back to the original shop with the fake magnaflow and get my money back. That's bull crap what they did. Tapatalk via Moto X

I'm not sure I would bother with my money back, I'm more the type to drive by about 2am and toss that knock off muffler through their window. I'm not condoning such an action, but... No wait.... Yes I am, I wish you were close, I'd go do it for you. Edited March 27, 2014 by TDT 3

I agree it's not about the money more of the fact that the MF deceived me. Mike
Bbowen826 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Just got my Flowmaster cat back system installed yesterday. It sounds perfect. Nice and deep but not raspy at all. When it goes into V4 mode you can hear a difference. It does not drone but its pretty annoying to me, so I got a Diablo tuner and turned off the DOD. With the V4 mode disabled the muffler sounds great when accelerating and can barely notice it at cruising speed.

mzodarg Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Pic of knock off muffler? I did not take a picture of it before I took it back to the other muffler shop on Friday. Sorry....

I only say that cause my shop put in a MF muffler that I watched come out of a magnaflow box on my truck, underneath the MF it said magnaflow Edited March 31, 2014 by hodges25
mzodarg Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yeah, the poser exhaust was not imbossed. Again, shame on me for not looking. The new one is stamped with the magnaflow name and logo and is Stainless Steel.
