2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

Ok my two cents on this weekly topic, first its your ears so try this. Remove muffler add pipe, cost about forty dollars. If that dosent work remove resonator. Still not happy find muffler shop you like pick a muffler go from there. You could allways spend the big bucks later if that doesn't do it.

I did a muffler/flapper delete on my truck. The sound is much better than stock and lost 22 lbs of muffler flapper. The sound in v8 mode is pretty good definitely not to loud. In v4 mode it makes a weird flutter sound not unacceptable but not great either. If a guy were going to tune the v4 out the v8 sound would be a good inexpensive option. A good friend with a 2014 5.3 installed a cat back corsa sport. He feels like it is a little to loud on cold start and acceleration The sport corsa is just a little sharp/loud for his liking .I am sure others would like it even louder just depends on what you are looking for.. He liked my delete better than his system. He hopes the muffler shop will let him swap out the sport muffler for a touring muffler. Hope this helps.

I too am waiting for the Corsa with the touring muffler. I just want a little grunt on acceleration, but quiet all other times.

Drone occurs when the engine drops down to 4 cyl from 8. I could be wrong but your impala doesn;t do that, does it? I've been in a truck with bad drone before...it's extremely annoying, and hurts your ears...you "feel" the vibrations in your ear canals, neck, etc. It's enough to make me sick...and I've read about others who have turned around, went back to the shop and had the whole system ripped out because of it. I can deal with obnoxiously loud exhaust...but drone, no way! Anyway, just my opinion on that.

I just installed a flowmaster...

Here is thread with videos

I just put a flowmaster 70 series on my 2014 today. I cut off the extra cat, put on the new muffler and new 3" tailpipe out the back. No more resonator or flapper. Her is the thread with videos.

Ugggh...so I called a local exhaust custom shop...Lou's Custom Exhaust. We have a bunch of them around here and I've actually heard good things about. Anyways, I asked about brands ...they carry a bunch inlcuding Borla but no Corsa. He was trying to push his "Lou's version muffler and pipes". I asked if his system eliminated the exhaust flapper valve thing we all have, and he say WHAT? I said the Flapper valve, I said I have a 2014 Silverado. He says matter of factly that no, your truck has no flapper of any kind. I asked, have you done any systems on any 2014 Chevy's or GMC's and he says of course they have. I hung up on him. Geeze...it's ok not to know something, but not OK to try to correct someone who obviosly knows quite a lot more about a given topic than you do. So much for that...I'd never let them put their greasy fingers on my truck after that. I bet I end up doing my system myself in the driveway on jackstands now. Geesh!

Funny part is, all he had to do was be nice and someone knowledgable and he would have got my business....easy as that.

I went with the borla dual out one side. very happy with the sound very deep rumble not that loud at idle and when you stomp on it sounds awesome. doesn't resonate at all, v4 has a slight deeper rumble and truck seems more responsive as well now. sounds very much like the corsa vid posted earlier in the posting. Im pretty sure any cat back setup is going to sound good go on you tube tons of vids being posted. I just went with Borla because I was happy with results from my previous vehicles.

Does your borla exhaust have the flapper valve in it? I know that GM wed site picture of the borla exhaust doesn't show the flapper valve and was wanting to verify it.

Yes it came with the valve but i didn't install it because the Last gen had no valve and it wasn't a problem. I think if you buy it from borla it comes with no valve but mine is a gmpp model bought through the GM dealer I work at. To satisfy the GM enginerds for the borla kit it was added but its at the end of the straight pipe coming off the cat. so I cut my original muffler 1 inch past the front and made the connection at the right in front of the muffler were the borla kit had a flared end and didn't install the front borla supplied flex pipe with the valve. The Borla valve has an additional crossover pipe welded in around the valve as well so im sure it would be a higher flow rate then the factory valve and since I didn't cut any of the cat back kit i can install it at a later date if I see a need too. so far I couldn't be happier with the way it sounds so I don't think I will ever install it. It was nice that borla engineered it that way and install took no longer then a half an hour.

Oh yea and you can choose chrome or black chrome tips with the GMPP kit.
