here is my new set up... love it! with headers it's perfect to me and was really cheap. Knock off Magnaflows 1 23" muff and 1 14" straight thru 3" into a 3.5" tail pipe.

Sound clips are needed here!

Here you go. I started with 18" and switched to 14". Cab sound is about the same. Outside the 14 is a more aggressive sound and a bit louder. Very pleased with the 14".

If you don't mind me asking was it just the muffler that you added to your truck? If it was what was the part number?

I am torn on what to do. I know I will be doing a single in dual out setup. I just can't decide on which muffler. I have been reading this thread all day and I think I have it narrowed down to two setups; Flowmaster Super 10, Aeroturbine or possible a Series 40.

I picked the Flowmaster because it seems a lot of people are using it and like it. I am afraid it may be too aggressive and sound obnoxious. Also, I don't want it to hard to use my handsfree calling or have to keep the music cranked up. Drone doesn't seem to bad with this muffler either. Cost is about right also.

I also picked Aeroturbine because that is what I have used in the past on my '05 (3030 - Side dumped) and the sound was pretty decent. It is also what the same shop recommends that did my '05 years ago. I'm just not sure how it will sound with duals as I have been told Aero's are designed for a single exit. The only thing I disliked it about it wasn't quite loud enough. Also it did sound completely different than any other muffler I have heard. I have only seen one guy use this on here and he seemed pretty happy with it.

From my research a regular series 40 may fall right in between those two?

Any one shed some light on it?

I had the 22" Magnaflow installed and resonator delete yesterday. The sound is a nice deep tone but is pretty quite and that was really my intentions. I suggest is you wanna here your truck at idle and I'm sure is noticeable on freeway ........get you the 18". The muffler shop was telling me 18" from the start but I'm happy with the 22". Nice and melow.

Well after researching all day (literally), I am going to stick to my original decision (sort of) and go with AeroTurbine. Originally I was going to go with AT3030 Y back, but after talking to Aeroturbine, he really suggested the AT3030XL with the built in resonator. He said with the 3030XL it will reduce drone greatly and still deliver the same sound on the outside which is what I was after. I made my appointment next week so I will be able to post up a video after.

After searching youtube non stop I finally found two videos that helped me decide:

I started off with the complete Dynomax system with the VT muffler for about $350 shipped. It fit perfect and was inexpensive, but after 8 months the flapper In the VT muffler would rattle like crazy, especially when cold, or when you would blip the throttle, and sounded like shit. So I measured the VT muffler and found that the 18" magnaflow would fit in its place, so I spent another $90 and swapped out the VT for the18" magnaflow and now it sounds awesome. Definitely not as quiet when cruising which I liked about the VT, but sounds way better when you get on it, as the VT would sound like rushing air when you got on it and it sounded terrible. If I could be bothered to swap in the stock flapper with the magnaflow I bet it would be perfect. I don't know how you guys can run the 14", as it has to drone like crazy. I got, over droning exhausts 20 years ago. I like loud, good sounding exhausts, but when it drones on long drives it's not worth it.

You stated this perfectly. The VT sounds funny on hard acceleration, like air just pushing through.

SouthPawCO that second video is mine. I have been testing several different mufflers because I'm really picky and hoped the videos would help others make their decision. With the stock manifolds the Jones 3030 sounded awesome, but with headers I felt it was a little too raspy, so I tried a 3030 XL and it is about perfect.

Good choice and good luck.

Oh right on! I had a 3030 dumped on my '05 in front of the rear tire and it sounded amazing but I can't remember if it droned or not. My appointment is set for Friday morning and I am torn on whether to do a 3030XL or 3030.

I talked to Aero and they said there is only a 4 decibel difference between the two and they recommend the 3030XL. My only worry is, it is going to be quiet and only slightly louder than stock. Do you have any input for this?

If you stick with the stock manifolds and cats, I would go 3030, but if you plan on headers, go XL. Stock, the 3030 sounded just about perfect.

I think that is what I'm going with. Just trying to find some videos with the 3030 setup as a duals with a Y pipe.

I just installed the Borla S-Type exhaust. I love it. Perfect sound that I was looking for. Its loud but not too loud. No drone so far but will report back. V4 sounds just fine.

Well I got it done today and I'm not sure what to think yet. He did an AT3030, 3"-2.5" Y pipe and 2.5" all the back with 3" tips. When I first started it, it almost sounded like the factory exhaust. I revved it up some and it started to get louder.

Well I had a bunch of running around to do today so the more I have been driving it the louder it has been getting (in a good way). At idle, it's pretty quiet with a very mild tone. At cruising/highway speeds it's very mild as well. If I hammer it gets louder but I'm not sure if I want it louder. I'm going to try this for a month and if I don't like it, I'll be swapping it.
