A buddy of mine ran the borla sport out the sides. Believe it was a factory upgrade option on his high country. Thing sounded amazing..I just don't wanna pay 900 for cat back lol. Thinking about trying to just order the muffler and have a local shop run the rest

Anyone know where I could get a flange for our trucks exhaust? The round one after the converters. Currently in the process of making an exhaust and don’t want to cut my stock exhaust up

Has anyone tried the GM Performance parts cat-back system?

Yes I have the 3.5" system manufactured by TMG (Corsa), it is fairly tame with a smooth growl when accelerating. I notice a touch of drone at low rpm (V4) likely because it does not have the butterfly valve.

I used this flange for my 2015 with the 5.3. I'm not sure if the 6.2 is 3" and then flares up after to 3.5" though.

Awesome. I have the 5.3 anyway. Curious do you know if I can use just the flared part with out the ball end?

Yes. I only used the clamp and female end to build my catback off of. It bolted right up to the stock male end after the third cat.

I plan on going this weekend to have the Flowmaster 10 Series installed.. First just the muffler, start it and see how it sounds with the resonator in place.. if not to my liking then ill have them remove it.

But where is this V4 flap? is that inline somewhere in the exhaust?  Is that a job for the muffler shop? what does removing it do?

The V4 flap "valve" is right behind the stock muffler, and yes a muffler shop can remove it, all they need to do is cut out the valve inline piping and replace it would new tubing. sorry for the late response! let me know how it turns out!

I just took my stock exhaust off and it’s all in one piece, no cutting. I can sell it to you (North Jersey)

What year? I’d be interested if it came off a 17

Just installed a Corsa dB exhaust single exit on my 2017 5.3 and it sounds and looks great. The sound at cold start sounds like a lion and is super loud I’m sure it wakes my neighbors. It tones down a bit but sounds great on the highway and when you rev it up. Even on normal driving in city, the sound is nice and deep in certain lower gears, no drone or chopper noise. Highly recommend this exhaust and it won’t break the bank which is a big plus

Quick question...

I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere but I want to do a low cost exhaust (cut out stock muffler and install new).  I dont know much about the dos and dont but can I revert to stock after doing that?  If I have a shop cut out the stock parts (muffler and flapper valve) and install a new muffler/straight pipe filler can the stock parts be welded back in pretty easily?  Noticeable change in tone when reverting back to stock?  Curious because I dont want to be stuck if the drone noise is really bad and I'm not ready for a tune (still have factory warranty left).

Hi all. Getting the right exhaust sound and performance on these trucks is one of the most perplexing upgrades I have done on a vehicle I have owned. You want loud? Easy, a number of options exist. Quiet? Easy, leave it stock.  In between - with no chopper sound? That's where your problem begins...I had great difficulty achieving nirvana on this issue.  Here is what I have done, good and bad.

Mistake #1 was using a good/honest, but run of the mill "muffler shop" to dial it in.  I let them replace my factory muffler with a FM 40 replica (these are everywhere now a days with lots of brand names, or even brand-less).  Left the flapper on. No pictures on this one. I found it had an annoying hum at all speeds, but no drone really.  Start up sound great with the remote start. I wasn't satisfied. I felt like the truck wasn't running as good (less power - is this possible?) with this muffler.

Being a slow learner in general, I returned to the same shop and ask for one of their magnaflow replicas.  They seemed offended I came back, but were polite enough overall I suppose. They had magnaflow knock-off's in an 18" offset, and also a 24" 5x8 oval stainless available, with 3" in and out, which I purchased.  I looked it up when I got home and the magnaflow equivalent # is 12289. They charged me the difference.  Their comments made me realize how little they knew about these vehicles, such as: the flapper is useless here in warm weather, it only works where its cold...the magnaflow is only for big trucks (not mine) with 6.0's...and other astounding observations.

Sadly, this "stainless" muffler already shows corrosion after a week, around the factory welds. The sound - back to stock, plain and simple. The straight through design seems better, but I couldn't tell if the truck was running better than stock.

Then...I discovered an actual performance exhaust shop, Top Gun Muffler in Ft Walton Bch. Wow. Drove an extra 40 miles or so, but it was worth it.  Whole different crowd both in the shop and in the waiting room. Lesson: drive little farther if necessary.  Lots of choices and in-depth knowledge.

I had them delete the resonator only, my idea (see pic), in hopes of a little more sound and perhaps having the sound behind me and not underneath the cabin.  Still have the flapper.  I was surprised how much louder the rez delete made it.  It has a slight drone at 1500 rpm in V4, but no real noise in V8 mode unless accelerating.  Good WOT sound. Much closer to what I was looking for. Its more of a V8 gurgle type of noise (truck stays in a low gear always, unless you're almost WOT, so its hard to achieve that quick V8 burst noise from the days of yore).

I'll run it for 6 months, if the drone annoys me I'll have them weld a small bullet type resonator in and be done with it.  Wow, all this aggravation just trying to avoid paying for the GM Borla.  Sorry for the excessive information, I'd rather give too much than too little. Hope this helps someone or at least provides a good laugh.
