Great looking truck. Could you snap a pic of the rear pinion angle? I have a slight vibration put in 6° shims but I think 4° would have solved it. Thanks

A pic won't do anything for you. Every truck is different so add angle or take it out and see what your truck likes.

I know that just like to see. I tried 3° then 6° and it still has a very slight vibration. I had it at the dealer for a recall and they said my shims were in backwards Wichita I know is wrong. I have the pinion tilted down in the front and tech said it needed to be pointing up. I don't guess they deal wit dropped trucks very much I have been doing this for 25 yrs and this is the first truck that has given me any vibrations.

My guess is your transmission is pointing down, which is why the tech said pinion needed to point up. You probably need to put an angle finder on to see what's going on.

Thanks that's the next step I put a trans spacer in and made it worse. I'll do more checking this weekend

you need to measure the angle and not just guess and throw parts at it. You can download a free application on your smart phone for angle finder and measure it, believe it or not its pretty damn accurate. Get the truck on level ground and measure the angle at the slip yoke at the front of the driveshaft and then the yoke at the pinion. That will tell you how far you are off. For example I measured my truck before and after just to see the rate of change (every truck is different, my numbers can not be relevant to anyone elses truck). Stock my angles were 7* at the trans and 8* at the diff. 1 degree high, after it dropped to 4* after a 2 inch drop (already had the blocks removed). So mine is off by -3*, I have 0 vibration issues and I have not bothered with it

Totally understand I guess being 4wd makes a little bit of difference. I will do more checking today or tomorrow thanks.

Ok so I measured the angles at the transfer case where the u joint is its at 7° and the rearend is at 3°. Does this mean I need to add 4° more or would I replace the 6° with a 2°? Damn this is confusing lol.

If you already have shims in the trans or rear end id take all of them out and start over. It is going to be much harder to get the 2 close if your adding and removing shims. Depending on how far your drop is you shouldn't have to mess with the transmission angle at all, it can all be made up with the rear end since that's what is rotated down when you lower it

Ok took shims out now trans angle is at 6° and rear is at 3°. So I'm thinking I need a 3° shim to raise front of pinion upwards?

Really all your doing to eliminating your vibration, a few degrees wont affect anything except how the gear oil is distributed in the diff. Have you driven it with it being 3* off yet? I know every truck is different but I am 3* off and have no vibration at all.

Yes I drove it this morning to work and the vibration is still there gonna pick some shims up today and put them in this afternoon.

It helps him some, would need to know the tranny angle is well.

You want it to be off some for pinion movement.

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.       
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.  
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
