Ok I gotta ask and you may have told the forum b4 but what exhaust do you have that's driving you crazy when it shifts to V4? I have an 18" MF and although I can tell the v4 kicked it, it isn't worth me going back to stock.

Mike

I originally wanted true duals... So that's what I got. They cut all the existing exhaust right at the cat.. They installed the new pipes with no mufflers. Sounded like absolute garbage... Not like my 06.. I went to a shop down the street and picked any muffler I could finding thinking this was the quick solution.. Purchased the 40 series FM dual in dual out... It drives me absolutely insane... The v4 drone echos In the cab... It seems louder than when I'm pushing the gas In v8!!!! It's crazy

I installed the magnaflow cat back system. There is droan in v4. Not enough to make me go back to stock. In the city I drive in m5 to ensure no droan. I find the sweet spot on Highway to limit v4. Sounds great at startup and when on the gas. Deep rumble on Highway.

Exactly, I have the MF 5x11x22 muffler and while I can hear a slight burble when in V4 and under 1700rpm's it is nothing that makes your ears bleed or is annoying.

Yours doesn't echo In the cab?? Does Not allowing it to shift into 6th effect mileage at all? What about 1-5 it doesn't go into 4 cyl?

Do u have a dual in dual out system? I can't believe mine is this bad and you guys barely hear anything for it to bother you... I wish I could upload a video

No v4 when in m1 to m5. Mileage change not noticeable. There is rumble in cab but what did u expect when installing exhaust on a eight cylinder? The cab sound isn't echo but more of a throaty sound. Classy not cheap sound.

So when u have the truck in m5 the truck at no point will switch to 4 cyl mode??

A blackbear tune will fix the v4, unnecessary shifting, plus itll drive damn good. I dont know of anyone havin a tune that voided the warranty

Howabout checking with a shop like Midas or Meineke?

Good idea.. They should have so knowledge on the topic.. I just don't know if I should get a new muffler, get the range tool, or just deal with it... 300$ wasted so far unless I can find an option that doesn't require me removing the fm such as the range kit...

OK - I gotta ask this.

If a tune will leave traces that can be tracked by the dealership service department (even if you "untune" it before service), and IF a tune will create warranty issues should something go wrong, why would anyone get a tune?

Wouldn't it be better to at least get out of warranty (or at least a lot more certain that there isn't going to be any warranty issues)? Really trying hard to understand the issue.

Gotta pay to play. I had a custom Blackbear tune on my last truck (2002 Silverado) and it was a drastic improvement over stock. More power, better mileage, better throttle response. Even idled better. Truck had a 6" lift and 33" tires with aftermarket wheels and it got 17-18 mpg highway. Thats better than some people get stock with brand new trucks! I put about 30k trouble free miles on a Blackbear tune before I traded the truck.

But yes, there is the downfall that IF something does go wrong, they dealer will blame the tuning as a cause. Unless you can prove the tune didn't cause the problems (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act). So if you can't prove the tune didn't cause the issue (whatever it may be), you will be stuck with the bill for the repairs.

I asked another forum member the price on a tune + autocal. He told me 600$ is it worth it?

I think when I did my Blackbear it was $600 upfront, or something like that. $300 for the tune, and $300 for the scanner deposit. You get the $300 back after you install the new tune and do a relearn with the scanner and send it back. Basically they charge the $300 extra bucks so people don't run off with their equipment. Send the people at Blackbear an email, they are helpful and will detail how they do business. Here is a link to their services. I think I did a "Scan Cable Tune." At the time I did both my Dads 2007 Suburban and my 2002 Silverado.

*edit*

on that link there is a Process on what happens when you start working with them. Pretty helpful.

  1. You'll submit a security deposit to cover the cost of the scan

cable hardware, amounting to either $250 or $400, depending on what type

of vehicle you have. This deposit is fully refundable when returned in

    a timely manner.

  2. Using a Windows-based laptop (not provided), you'll follow

our detailed instructions to collect one or more log files from the

    vehicle while driving.

  3. Those files will be sent in to us by email to be reviewed.

If all is well, we will provide an order form to complete to purchase

the tune. If any correction or clarification is needed, we'll provide

direction as to what else we need to see.

  4. Tuned computer or computers will be mailed to you to be

installed. Using the scan cable, you'll be able to link the new

computer(s) to the vehicle and perform a follow-up log file. We'll

review that log to ensure that all is operating as it should be.

  5. The scan cable and factory computer(s) (if desired) are returned to us for a refund of the core charge.
