New Truck Sits lower

My 2014 Sierra AT came in last night. It did come with the painted step bumper which I am happy about. What I am not happy about is how low the ne truck is compared to my 2010.

I have a 2.25 inch Readylift level kit and the air dam on the new one is almost 5 inches lower sitting side by side. Now I am rethinking a four inch lift ( and buying a new set of rims with more offset to fit) instead of a leveling kit to gain a little clearance. It seems like the new truck sits about 2 inches lower than the last version. Has anyone else noticed this?

I was all settled on another level kit so that my a+ 18 offset rims would still work. I do go offroad sometimes so the extra clearance is good.....

Was that just off the semi? Have you driven it? The suspense was probably compressed on the truck a bit.

Thse trucks do sit lower than the previous Gen...main reason, aerodynamics for increased MPGs

Didn't drive it other than about 500 feet to park it beside my old one. I know the air dam is lower for aerodynamics, it just sucks i had a plan and now I need to rethink it again

Give the suspension time to loosen up.. It should raise up a little.

These standards aren't mandated by our elected officials. The Washington bureaucrats enact them. NHTSA, DOT, NHTSA etc. The problem is that they've been around a long time and they have to do something. If they didn't enact something they'd have to get real jobs and be productive like the rest of us. No one elected these people. I've dealt with them on their recommendations to state legislatures concerning motorcycle laws. It was scary. They disseminate misleading to absolute false statistics and information to achieve some kind of change to justify their existence. Legislators often listen to them because they never hear the rest of the story. The affected people just bitch about them, but reelect them, and rarely participate in the process.

CAFE standards are absolutely enacted by our elected officials, and then signed into law by the president. NHTSA has nothing to do with new mpg standards that will eventually give us 4 cylinder pickup trucks.

You guys are crazy, CAFE standards have risen in recent times, yet we have 600+ powered mustangs and vettes, 470 HP dodges and chryslers, 420 hp 1/2 tons, and the "4 cylinder" cars on the market often have turbo power making 250+ hp from any manufacturer. Stop whining this is the golden age for auto enthusiasts!!!! AWD, RWD, FWD, 4WD turbo small displacement, turbo diesel, big block, small block, factory supercharged, magnetic ride control, dual clutch trannies, etc. etc. etc. etc.

 

AND THEY STILL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS BY THE AVERAGES!!!

My 2014 and a 2013 side by side. Both are Z71 4x4. The 2014s hood sits a few inches higher but there pretty much the same height at the roof.

just fyi because I work for a car hauler, the suspension would not be compressed because "almost" every single auto carrier uses soft straps around the tires allowing the suspension to bounce...I have never seen a truck come in chained like the old days

Correct, but current standards require a fleet average of about 30 mpg. The new standards call for fleet averages to be over 50mpg within 10 years or so. Huge compromises will need to be made to achieve these, and they will not come cheap.

Well, I decided to go with a 4 inch BDS lift instead of a level kit. I want to be able to drive through a ditch without worrying about ripping stuff off the truck. Should be good now. Too bad these new trucks sit as low as a minivan now
