Mine works fine and the same as both my separate remote and my old vehicles that had homelink. When I first programmed the homelink in my truck using my opener's remote operation was not the greatest. However, when I went to the opener and pressed the lean button in my garage and then went outside and operated the homelink everything started working great.

I have a 2014 Silverado LTZ and the Homelink is maddening. There is only one spot in the entire driveway where I can get the thing to work. I spend every trip driving up and down the drive way to hit the correct spot. I actually have a side entry house and the homelink will not open the door when I am parked in front of the door. I actually have to be pointed parallel to the door. Mine is a rolling code garage door opener and I have programmed it multiple times and the performance has never improved. I have a 2010 traverse that will open the door from down the street. We also have a 2014 Durango that will as well. The Infinity G37 I traded in on this truck would also work from down the street. It is clearly an inferior homelink system in my truck...not sure the dealer will replace it, since it actually works...just not well.

Maybe the Chevrolet customer service reps that are on the forum can comment on this?

I can open it farther away going forward than when I back down the driveway, but in either case, I'm far enough away that it's open by the time I get there.

Here's my little story. Hopefully this will help someone. My garage door openers are 1993 vintage and use the old fixed code system with dip switches. I think my biggest problem is both my doors are metal and my brick garage was built using aluminum faced foam board around the perimeter. So basically the entire garage is covered in metal, blocking the opener antennas. Even using the supplied remotes was always a frustrating experience. When I got my 2009 Tahoe with Homelink things got better. I was able to consistently able to open the doors from 20-30 feet away. Not as good as I would like but better than the remotes. I was expecting the same performance on my new '14 but it really sucked. I programed it multiple times and could only operate the door if they were open. I was pissed. I ended up ordering a Genie Universal Dual Frequency Remote Conversion/Upgrade Kit Model # GIRUD-1T from Amazon for around $40. When I mounted it, I placed it on the front wall right above the garage door. I have two 2x10's above the door so I figured that area wasn't being blocked by any metal. They give you one of those key chain remotes with the kit which I don't think are powerfully enough to program the Homelink system with. I had hold the transmitter right up against the little light before it would accept it. But now, I kid you not, I can open my door from 400 yards away with my '14. The kit uses a different frequency so I'm not sure it that was my problem or just the placement of the antenna. But the Homelink didn't work as well with my old setup with the '14 as it did with my '09. I too thought my Homelink was broke, but now it works every time from long distances.

Sorry so long, but I hope it helps someone. I know how frustrating this can be.

You are probably onto something here. We moved into a new house back in April of last year. The 2007 I traded in would open the old house from down the block but I had to be in front of the house before it would work at the new house. Bought new truck and I even have to be closer. I thought that it was an issue location. I live at the top of a hill and in a bend in the road. You really don't get line of site with the house until you are right on top of it...

Oh and for the Record...

I'm a Backer Upper... \

I back in and my wife pulls in with her Malibu, gives us the most room around the vehicles.

I always back my vehicle into an situation that it'll be sitting. So do all my friends! :)

My transmitter works just fine when backing into garage. Same as all the other GMC trucks I have owned. It works way better than the Ford at the station too.

I had trouble getting mine to work at all. I cant set it.

I tried at least 10 times in different positions. My fingers were number from holding down the buttons. I actually overheat my motor in the process and had to unplug it for a while to reset it. Holding it right against the light finally worked.

I just put a craftsman garage door opener in my garage and programmed the homelink in my truck and it works from the street to my driveway. I have a detached garage so it's about 30ft or so. it works forward and backwards. it was easy to program and I have had no issues. I also have the homelink programmed to my parents wrought iron gate opener and their garage and no issues here.

Sorry to hear you all are having so much trouble. I did mine today and wasn't expecting too much after reading about all the problems with Home Link.

I have a Liftmaster 8550 that was installed in May of last year that absolutely wouldn't work with my 2007 LTZ. It took about 30 seconds to get it working on my 2014. It'll open the door far enough away that I can drive right in to the garage without stopping and programmed it just using the remote.

So some Home Link systems DO work. Guess I was lucky enough to get one that does.

I decided to get my homelink up and running, it was so much easier than i thought it was going to be reading this thread! Pushed the button on the remote, homelink on the truck learned it. Now it works from super far away too! And I always back in the garage, trucks are meant to be backed in!

On thing I did years ago was add some wire (20') to the garage door antenna, poked a hole in the ceiling and ran it into the attic. Once in the attic I separated the wire ran one down one side of the trusses and the other down the other side. Stripped about 12" of wire off of each and wire stapled them. I live on an acre, my garage doors have no problem opening from 2 lots away. It's worth a try.
