I tried at least 10 times in different positions. My fingers were number from holding down the buttons. I actually overheat my motor in the process and had to unplug it for a while to reset it. Holding it right against the light finally worked.

In the manual it specifies that you should replace the batteries in the remote. Even tho the remote works the signal strength is better with new batteries. Maybe that will help if you have subsequent doors to program...maybe. Good luck.

It was a brand new transmitter. From what I've read, the little keychain transmitters don't have the strength as the full size remotes.

So the truck went in yesterday for the recall work. I also had them check a few things like the garage door opener and heated seats with using the remote start.

They found no issues with the garage door opener. Stated they could see it communicate back and forth. What he didn't know was the specific range of the transmitter. He was going to do some research and get back to me. I made it clear that I have had 4 other vehicles with Homelink and have never had an issue.

Another problem I was having was with my MPG. I didn't buy the truck to get good has mileage, however I expected it to be better than my 12 Ram 2500 w/ 4.10 gears. I have been getting 12 around town and about 16 on the highway. He didn't really have an answer for me. Said there are a ton of contributing factors that could lead to that.

So they performed to work and I went on my was. On the way home (25 miles, 95% highway) I was getting 22 mpg. Parked the truck and then left later in the evening to go to a friends house. As we were leaving the house I noticed the fiance left the garage door open, not real thinking I started pulling in the driveway while pressing the Homelink button on my way too nose up to the door. Sure as shit the button had worked from the road. When we got home from the friends house (15 miles, all hilly back roads, 18.6 mpg) I tried my garage door with the Homelink as I was approaching the house and it worked from the road.

I don't know what they did. Maybe the program on my cpu was bad or what, but everything seems to be much better now.

Same issue, had a 2007 SLT, 2010 SLT, 2010 Yukon Denali----with no issues. Now the 2014 SLT has to be less than 5 feet away from the door in order to work, forget about backing into the garage. This is typical of two different garage doors at our home. The original door remote works from down the driveway also. I had the vehicle to the Dealer and had a new transmitter installed with similar results.

The homelink is not controlled by the BCM, all of the programming is stored in the module itself. It only has power/ground that it needs for it to work.

Also noticed that I have to be super close while backing in with the sierra. Never got homelink working right in the Yukon for some reason tho

No issues noticed on my 2014. GDO works across the road as I'm approaching the house. I back in the drive way and can close the door as I'm leaving from across the street as well.

I have an old garage door opener and I programmed the homelink today and I too have to be right next to the door.. I can close it if it's open but once closed I can't reopen it.. I know my 13 Equinox wasn't great but was much better.. However I do have problems with the transmitter that comes with it, so I will have to try the garage at the other house and see how that works as it's the newer rolling code type.. but the guy above who said his will only work if it's open: Same here. Hoping it's my GDO.

I'd really be interested in hearing if somebody comes up with a solution for this. My 2014 Sierra has the same problem. I cannot open the garage door unless my bumper is nearly touching it.

It's been to the dealer three times. The first time they said they would need to check into it and get back to me. The second time they didn't do anything because I had an electronic toll pass in my window which they said had to be removed to eliminate it as the cause of the problem. The third time they didn't do anything other than just take notes and said they would check with technical and get back to me. So, three visits and no actions or resolution from the dealer.

After the second visit I went home and spent a couple of hours on the phone with the homelink folks. They had me jumping through a million hoops including buying new batteries for my remotes (because, according to them a weak battery in my remote could affect the strength of the programming in my vehicle), unplugging everything in the garage, turning off fluorescent lights, installing a ~15 foot extension to the antenna wire on my opener and several other things. Of course none of these worked.

It is worth noting that I have one opener that is an older model from the mid nineties and one newer opener with a rolling code. On the rolling code opener I can open the door from 20' or so away but have to be right up against the other door for it to work. Two of my other current GM vehicles also have home link which works just fine on both doors from at least a few hundred feet away. In fact, we are a four car family and this is our seventh new GM in just over 2 1/2 years. Most of these vehicles had home link and we've never had a problem until now.

I also have the unresolved radio issue and cannot listen to radio stations in HD (it's nonsense that even local stations cut in and out like that). I wonder if these two are somehow related. In any case, since there appears to be no resolution forthcoming from GM or the dealer, I'll be watching this forum closely and hoping that somebody comes up with a solution.

After all that I do want to say that I've also owned Ford, Dodge, and Toyota trucks and, although this is not a fair comparison because they were several model years apart from each other, nevertheless - this GMC Sierra is by far the nicest truck I have ever owned. I love the looks of the truck, it's styling, features, handling, and it's quiet ride!

I think it's a keeper, even with the minor flaws...
