GMC-AT Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Thinking about removing the GMC emblem on the tailgate. What is the best to do this? I was thinking fishing line behind the emblem? Is it just double side type holding it on? Are there any holes behind the emblem? dont want to do this is there any holes..
swaptrex14 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I removed everything, all emblems and molding. Just heat it lightly with a heat gun, take fishing line behind it after the adhesive heats up, remove adhesive with a rubber wheel. I've done my last three GMC's with this method, never had an issue.
diannabill Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 pardon my ignorance, but what's a rubber wheel?
Stex Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Careful with a heat gun. Hair dryer will work also and less chance of paint damage. Some use gm adhesive remover to remove the adhesive remaining. I use a wd-40 type spray if not a lot remaining. Use a good micro fiber towel to work/touch on the paint. Clay bar and then a light polish, wax or a wax if no swirls/marks. It is easier then you may think.
ZacInLV Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 No holes behind the emblem. I took my rear one off too.
MotoMedic Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 If you get the adhesive removal (eraser) wheel, no heat gun is necessary, just fishing line. http://www.autorefinishsupply.com/v/vspfiles/photos/7498-2T.jpg

Aaron1085 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Pics of everything....I'm debating on removing all emblems as well; specifically the 4x4 on the fenders and GMC logo on tailgate. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
TxTruckMan Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 First thing I have to remove is the dealer's name on my tailgate. That crap pisses me off. I might do it this weekend.
mike94silverado Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 That badge would be the first thing gone had I gotten a 14.... 20 years of a nice small badge on the corner of the gate and now they go back to 1988.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mzodarg Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I made my dealer remove the dealership badge before I took delivery. They were pissed, but oh well. Mike
tutiii Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 If you spray a little WD-40 and let it sit for a little bit it eats the glue away from the badging. then use fishing line. I've removed all my badging and molding from my 2011 GMC 2500HD Denali and 2014 GMC 1500 All terrain edition truck. Only once did a dealer ask if the truck was in an accident and that’s why i removed the badging. I told him no and if he would like i can give him the badging to put back on.
brentadams646 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 removed with fishing string, peeled rubber foam with my fingers while using blow dryer. I made my dealer remove the dealership badge before I took delivery. They were pissed, but oh well. Mike I peeled mine off in front of the service manager and sales man. lol at their faces
