Glad you got it out. But if you're breaking chains you either bought cheap chains or you're jerking. Jerk under no circumstances. :)

exactly, the chains i use working load is 4700lbs if I remember correctly and have yet to snap one. I would not want to be around if one of my chains break. The minimum breaking strength is 18k

I did that to my Sierra, was able to get pulled out though. Scratched my wheels and spent an entire afternoon digging out the mud from everywhere under the truck though!

All of the breakage of course came from some slight snatching. The cable and chains probably wasn't in the best shape anyway but I was surely desperate to do whatever it took. I did have several towels placed along the chains to prevent recoil ( which worked like a champ when they broke).

Once the backhoe showed up he brought the chain for the job.

And it took a good hour of rinsing to get the most of it sprayed off. Underneath anyway.

No way another truck was getting that out. I would frame that picture! HaHa. I wish I still had the video of my 2012 getting stuck and the chain came loose on the other truck trying to pull me out. The chain shot right back towards my vehicle like a rubber band. It destroyed my hood, fender, and windshield. The guy who hooked the chain to his truck didn't have a clue what he was doing so I got stuck with a $2200 body shop bill. That was on top of paying $200 for a wrecker to pull me out because the other truck never could. Needless to say it was a bad day! Since then I invested in some new chain ends that latch and can't come loose. Also got me a wyeth scott hand winch rated at 6000 lbs of dead lift. I won't make the same mistake twice.

I have always used straps. No damage if they break and mine is rated to 20k.

Note: NOT snatch straps. IMO if you can't apply constant pressure and get it out you need a bigger tow vehicle.

Was just gonna say, use straps not chains, way safer.

Looking at the angle of the chain and the wheels still being straight, I can see why the chain broke.

I'm glad someone finally said it. Chains are a terrible tool to pull it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

i use g70 briddles with cluster hooks or hooks on my winch. I never use tow hooks, i hook to the frame slots

straps aren't always the best a friend of my destroyed the tailgate on his truck because a tow truck strap broke and bent the center of his tailgate plus it smashed his topper trying to get out a four-wheeler out that was buried in clay and mud over the engine about an inch
