What they forget or do not realize is I live in Toledo Ohio the home of Dana (experts of mfg and engineering drive shafts and axles)GM Powertrain (where transmissions are built) and Chrysler machining where torque converters are built. We all converse and in many cases when the automotive industry took a dump we all found jobs together and continue to share information. From one of those guys that worked at Dana I showed the picture and this is what he stated "Unfortunately being in the driveshaft mfg business for many years I have seen this before. It is all they have to do to cure a balance issues in the field." In manufacturing the balance process was their biggest challenge. If the vibration went away the issue is a 1st order balance or mismatch with the mating yoke. Please note from my previous posts the yoke, driveshaft and changing the pinion angle have been their biggest areas of focus.

Hey GM customer care If you would like to validate everything I have stated just ask I will accommodate. Also please note I am an ex- machine repairman from Toledo Jeep I was laid off after 9/11 and took the time to reinvent myself and get out of the automotive industry. Before that I was a 63T in the US Army which is a track and wheeled vehicle mechanic, worked at Toledo Spring for 5 years after I left the military working on suspensions systems of both cars and trucks, worked as a mechanic at a farm implement shop rebuilding farm and earth moving equipment and then getting into my apprenticeship for Industrial maintenance. My hobbies are Harleys I have 4 of them and you will never see one of mine on the side of the road. I am a gear head and not afraid to get my hands dirty or crawl under a truck but most of all I take pride in my work and expect others to take pride in theirs as well, especially if what they are working on belongs to me regardless if I spent 5 dollars or 500,000.

Yea thats complete and utter BULL. I'd be getting ahold of the regional GM rep and start a storm of hell fire upon that dealership.

This was done by GM's regional Tech from Cleveland. He did this at Ed Schmidt GMC in Perrysburg Ohio. I cannot tell you if it was with their knowledge but I am about 99% sure it was as they have a vested interest in getting my truck out of their service center.

This is actually a pretty common practice for DIAGNOSING a possible driveshaft issue. Though the proper fix is a permanent, off truck balance w/ welded weights. Seems they didn't really get past the diagnostic stage.

Yes it is a field fix that they tried to pass off as a permanent repair. The truck as been in the shop for 24 days now so I am sure they are tired of looking at it and not getting paid.

My 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain is having all sorts of problems. I previously owned a 2006 Toyota Tundra and I am not sure if these issue below are typical with a GMC and I am over-reacting... Let me know! It currently has 19k miles and has been getting progressively worse.

1. Gears seem to be slipping - much like many of you have mentioned it up shifts aggressively and my down shifts aggressively too.

2. My four wheel drive does not seem to be working properly - I live in Colorado and it just started snowing so it is pretty slick however when I change into 4 high my back end slips outs extremely easy (had to try hard to do this with the yota) and it makes a crunching noise in the front end when just driving straight and easy.. I understand when in 4-high sharp turns are rough on the alignment but when I barely turn it seems to lock up and not only make a horrid sound but jumps all over.

3. When I plug my iPhone into the jack to charge it makes the radio crackle - it is not really loud but to me it is noticeable.

4. When moving slowly 1-5 mph in 2 wheel drive (just any normal day) my back end makes (wheel wells) a crunching noise - loud enough to be heard in the truck. When parking a week ago my friends had already got out of the truck and asked me what is that noise coming from your truck bed/rear wheel wells - can be noticed by everyone.

I am taking my truck into the dealer I purchased it from this week with hopes to get some answers. Right now my first experience with GMC is not going well and wished I would have stuck with Toyota..

Let me know your thoughts and I appreciate the feedback - I am still reading through all of your previous conversations.

Funny enough, I've noticed my fuel economy getting worse as well! Which is odd, I always thought fuel economy was supposed to improve as a car is broken in.

With all the problems I read about here daily, Ive decided that if Im lucky enough to not have any problems, I may hang on to this truck for along time. If you think about it that's as bad as someone changing brands. I can be good for a new truck at lease every two years. So if a lot of people start thinking that way, I got a good one I better keep it, think how that would affect sales.

Hey I have an all terrain with 5000k miles on it and i have had similar issues with vibrations and clunking sounds intermittent in the transmission. It vibrates in the 6th gear and up shifts hard. I have also heard some sort of noise coming from my left front wheel area. I have taken it to the dealer now twice and have even taken the tech on a ride and he told me that something is not right but it will need to get worse before he can figure what the problem is. I told him to recalibrate the computer and he wouldn't because there wasn't an update. Have you learned anything new about your truck yet?

Sounds the same as my all terrain

Yeah I agree with you. That is not a professional fix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's not? It's a lot better than a wad of chewing gum.

In an earlier post, I asked if I should consider a GM truck after owning 2 Tundras. I got a lot of feedback pro's and cons. But really after watching all these posts and all the issues... now I see there are issues with the exhaust flapper valves.

I picked up my new (84% american content) Tundra last week.

This is such a disgrace to have a government propped up company STILL producing the junk like it did 25 years ago when I started faithfully buying nothing but GM products.

Sadly GM is like an old dog, until we stop feeding her and buying new cars and trucks, she will live on and never get the message that she just needs to be put down.

This is a sad time for old school domestic auto manufacturing in America.

    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
    • So, lot's of googling and reading, and a trial fit found, that indeed they hit the newer fatter caliper. I did some re-testing today, and found just 3/16" worth of washers was enough for the wheel to spin freely. I added 2 more on each, and again it spun freely. Tested lock to lock with the 4 washers, about 5/16" not quite the 3/8" Im considering, but pretty close. No issues. I've been looking at the BORA .375" spacers and using extended lugnuts to get back lost thread due to the spacer. All the ET lugs I've seen are all .33" reach inside the wheel lug holes. For those that don't like spacers or think they're unsafe, I think it depends on what type of spacers you're using and making sure you get good quality hubcentric ones, and if you're using bolt on ones, regular mainenance, checking the spacer lugs. Not wanting or needing that much spread. Looking for the minimum that will let me run these rims and tires.  it does look to stick out a little, but I really want put these on. and use the stock all-terrains in the winter.
