Towing with the 6.2 V8

Old post but have a question, does the 6.2 1500 have a 2" or 2.5" receiver hitch? Away from my truck and trying to order a new drop hitch for it.

Thanks. I went by after work to try out the new drop hitch on my truck and its very loose. Any chance it is actually a 2.5"? I don't feel safe with the amount of slop in the receiver.

Thinking of purchasing a travel trailer 9000# GVW to pull behind my 6.2L max towing package Silverado. I know it is well within specs. Anybody towed anything that big with the new 6.2? How did it handle? MPG? Issues?

My tt is 10300 wet and I'm pulling with 5.3 3.73. No problems once the wdh was set correctly. Biggest problem is managing your rear axle weight. Mpg so far towing at 60 is 9.5. Btw truck dry (me, gas and toneau cover) 5731.

No 100% 2" receiver on all 1/2 ton silverados. Gotta go 3/4 ton

Do you have a tremendous amount of play in your receiver with the hitch installed? I can literally move it side to side and up and down more then my precious trucks.

I use a curt 2" drop receiver. All receivers I've ever owned click left to right and up and down a little bit. If u go back and shake the hitch its normal for it to move a little

They all move a little. If your freaking out measure it with a tape and verify. Maybe your hitch is off and not the receiver.

you can find them on ebay for cheaper. But I highly reccomend this set up and will tow anything that you hook to a half ton. They come in 2-2 5/16 which is the one I have and would think you should get otherwise they have one in 1 7/8 and 2"

Maybe your ball mount is undersized.

Fuse is correct, and the 3/4's also come with a sleeve so standard 2" ball mounts can be used in the 2 1/2 inch receiver. Then you get slop between the sleeve and receiver and between the sleeve and the ball mount.

A ball mount with longer length in front of the pin hole can help reduce the amount the mount can 'wiggle'.

If you don't like the rattle, consider a Diversi-Tech ball mount with the anti-rattle feature:

I bought a brand new z71 Chevy with 5.3 back in 2002,not long after I purchased a toy hauler that weighed about 5500 pounds empty ,when I asked the salesman if my 1500 truck would be okay to tow it he told me no problem and that I would be able to tow it with a Volkswagen if wanted to,the day I picked my new trailer up it didn't take me long to figure out that I was under trucked the first good size hill on the way home the truck was down in about second gear screaming and had it's tongue hanging out by the time we got to the top this problem only compounded when I added two motorcycles ,camping gear and filled the water tank up.(probably brought the weight up to 8000 pounds or very close to it)

Towing with this truck was not very pleasant so I traded it in for a 2002 duramax and the towing problem was totally fixed,I drove the duramax for nine years and it was a fantastic truck but it was time for a new truck and I wanted to go back to a half ton with a gas motor because I don't tow my toy hauler that much anymore but when I do I wanted something capable of the job ,I have read on here that the 5.3 has come a long way in the last ten years but I was still gun shy of the 5.3 in my 2002 so I opted for the 6.2 with 3.42 gear and I could not be happier ,I waited until I had the recommended 800 kilometres before I hooked up my toy hauler just to give it a test tow to see how it worked, there was no motorcycles in the trailer but it was full with water and camping gear probably close to 7000 pounds and it pulled the trailer with ease ,probably as good or maybe even better then my duramax ,I went up a few good size hills and it would drop a gear or two and would rip up the hills with ease ,good motor for sure.

That's awesome. Ya my 2014 with the 5.3 and 3.73 gears pulls like a beast. I can pull 6-7,000 lbs easily and it stays in 6th gear doing 75. No problems. Glad the 6.2 is working out. [emoji106]

yeah from what I have read on here, the towing power between the5.3 with 3.73 gears and the 6.2 with 3.42 is pretty much a wash, pretty evenly matched .
