I finally got the Yukon 4.56 gears installed today and there were no issues. The Motives that were pulled out had no unregulated wear or any ware for that matter so it appears it was just a noisy set. I am still waiting on my TCM tune fro Blackbear but it shouldn't be long I hope. I am running the ECM tune now and it is night and day difference already.

The TCM software is ready. Hit up Justin and find about yours.

Yea I got the tune back but I had some OS System error when I tried to load it. Should have it corrected shortly

Well the pinion nut backed of this weekend and trashed the new Yukon gears as well as the pinion bearings. I couldn't stop as it was the weekend and I was 300 miles from home. Shop had to put back in the whining Motives and order me a new set gears; on their dollar. Damn my luck! Should have just went with the supercharger!

Sucks about the gears but at least the shop is covering that.

I'm putting a Whipple on afters gears. SC is much higher than gears.

Crap.... You definitely have a good attitude after all this crap, and like previously said ... At least the shop didn't try to fight it.

You would think but right now I am over 3100$ in it and 8 days without the truck. I am half way there.

1530 for the locker and first set of gears

900 for install

340 for the Yukon and parts to replace the bad Motives. (Should get this back once I can return the motives)

375 for second install.

Yea but my tolerance is starting to wear thin. They used the old pinion nut for setup and forgot to replace it once they got done. It is an honest mistake but a 50 cent part is going to wind up costing them 2 free installs and a set of gears.

I went back to the shop and they installed the new set of gears. Everything was perfect for about 50 miles then the pinion seal started leaking horribly. Went back to the shop and they changed the pinion seal; as soon as I left the gears were wining. Didnt set pinion preload, change the crush sleeve or anything. I was heading to work so I had to let them run. Long story short 3rd set of gears shot. I got my money back for the shops work and purchased another set of gears. Found a shop in Shreveport called Clutch and Driveshaft, they do the rear end and driveshaft work for SS Truck here in town that does conversions and lifts. Truck is finally fixed and life is good. Long story short. You can change the gears in the 2014 9.5" rear end just do your homework and find a good shop. Can't say enough about these guys, a very professional group and the guys know what they are doing.

How is your gas mileage and drivability now with the 4.56?

How is your gas mileage and drivability now with the 4.56?

Mileage wise I consistently get 16.5 to 17 mpg on the highway if I keep it below 72mph. If i keep the speed around 65 I can get close to 19, 55mph and it will get 20. If i set the cruise at 75mph I get 15. Drivability is greatly improved; no downshifting (ever, not even once with the cruise set at 70 over the last 10k miles. Been all over louisiana, east Texas and south Arkansas) great acceleration and tows as good as my 13 6.2l did performance wise. Truck turns right at 2250 rpm at 72 mph so the engine is right in the powerband.

Edit: truck gets right at 14mpg at 72 mph on E-85 but it is a big performance increase over premium fuel and still comes out to 21 cents per mile to run it, same as premium.

That's pretty good. I figured drivability would be really good. I decided on getting 4.10 gears because I don't tow a great deal of the time.

You will be in good shape with the 4.10. I typically over do things a little. Good luck, hope it all works out good for you.

I ordered my gears from east coast gear, they should be here tomorrow and I have an appointment with triple N on Monday to get them installed. I only went with 4.10's since I drive a lot on the highway.

How'd the install go man? Looking to get this done on my truck.

I have a 2014 Sierra with a 6" lift with 20"wheels and 35" tires. My truck is a 4x4. Where do I start? I really need 4.10 gears! My current gear setup is 3.08.

Thanks!

Check out eastcoastgears.com out of North Carolina. They have the parts to setup the rear end on the 2014's and claim to have done a handful in house. I just ordered the parts the other day and my truck is at the local shop now. They claim a new posi duratrack by Yukon, a 9.5" 14 bolt gear set, a yoke adapter kit, a diff cover spacer and their master install kit will get it done. The front end of our 4x4's are the same 8.25" reverse IFS gear set as previous years. Give them a call and hit option # 2. They know their stuff. Hopefully my shop here in Ohio will have everything together by this evening and I will let you know how the truck is. I went with the 410's to replace my 3.42's. 35" tires and a 6" lift is what I have too

    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
    • Monday looks like a good day for the dealer to test an ac issue. Hopefully it all turns out good.
